In fairness, securing such valuables in an apocalypse would become the priority of a community as it began to collapse. In many cases this could be as simple as locking everything up as securely as they could. Extracting useful texts etc to a secure locale to become a knowledge/religious cache etc.

Plenty of weapons, even if its subpar mall ninja shit, too and that's not factoring in a Dick's sporting goods which has guns and ammo.
