It's performative. Both on the part of the artist, and of the people reading it for what amounts to bad twitter takes in each panel. It's not to create art, but to show off that the "comic" "artist" has the right, virtuous, takes, and the readers have the right, virtuous, opinions on said takes.
It's why Stonetoss can post something like this:

And it resonates so fucking hard that the left has created a minor sub-industry out of
anti-stonetoss -- including dozens of "anti-stonetoss" comics apeing his art style and trying to recreate his message style, several reddit organization groups just to troll normie subs and try and get stonetoss comics removed (and if that doesn't work, they flood the replies with "you know the person who posted this is a literal nazi, right?"), etc etc.
Because Stonetoss isn't creating his comic to "totally own the libs" or to "be a political cartoonist." The lefty sociopolitical comic artists are. I don't know of a real lefty equivalent to stonetoss, and I don't know if it'd be possible for one to form naturally in this sort of environment.
