Big brain hours.
I've read this sentence two ways: they're picking frames that are "popular/a fad for that season", or they don't have a need for glasses outside of being stylish. If it's the latter, isn't that some form of appropriation/mockery of the vision impaired like that Vine fad with the "I'm ugly, but I'm actually beautiful" shit? Yeah, this "I just have the frames, my eyes are actually fine" look has been around even before social media, but then they get snooty/defensive about it when someone questions it.
I personally don't care about thick and squared frames, I get why they exist and if I can find one that looks and feels good on me I might try picking one out in the future (when I'm old and don't care anymore). But it makes me think these people don't have friends/family members to go along with to go through eyeglasses together to make sure they have that second opinion, so that's why a lot of them look more like blockheads than sexy if that's what they were going for. It's not hard to have glasses that's both practical and fashionable, and yet they're just so adverse to their own reflection and/or have no idea how to match frames with the shape of their face. Makes for a good "Watch out, I'm nuts!" first impression, but come on, people.
That reminds me, is there a meme for the "eyeglasses to intellect" like there is for the ponytail meme (which I never knew existed before it showed up in this thread) by any chance? For science.
Glasses = smart is an ancient trope.
How is that any different than the actions of the government when they righteously tax a billionaire who "doesn't need" all that wealth? Do they not do the same via porking up their own pockets and friends?
Some good politicians exist. If your average billionaire had his way there would be children mining coal naked and an actual aristocracy.
