This makes a lot of sense. My friends, who run a luxury catering business say they're booked solid for small events for the next few weeks. One of the caterers, who is married to a Covid nurse, has done a total 180 in the last week from "We're going to be in lockdown till at least Christmas!!!!" to, "Business is so great and we're planning a vacation in July!" The other catering girl is frustrated by the flip-floppy-beach closures, and was tearfully like, "I can't understand all this. Let's just give the politicians whatever it is they want so we can go back to normal before we all miss our summer tans!"

I think the average person's brain cells are burning out from the stress and they're starting to default to new narratives more inline with the fact that we don't all seem to be dying after all.
I know I am. Laid off from my own job and even though I and most of my family have other means of income, the cabin fever is setting in. Our state (MA) was supposed to relax things starting tomorrow (technically today since it's the early AM,) but nope. Charlie Baker decided to push that out again by two weeks. I was hoping I'd be back to work soon, but no definitive promises yet either... I truly envy states like Georgia, Florida, and Texas right now as they plan to reopen their economies. As for us blue state prisoners, we have more boredom and anxiety ahead of us.

But you know what? I'm kinda glad some of my family are starting to think these lockdowns aren't passing the smell test either. A few weeks ago, they had much different opinions bordering on paranoia. Now it's turning into slow resentment that we can't get back to normal.

Do you believe there will be a second round of stimulus checks? I believe if there is, it will happen in a couple of months, as people start getting back to work. Get them a leg up on recovering.
I believe Dems floated an idea last week of giving either US$1000 or $2000 a month for a certain number of months as a way to help people stay afloat. However, I'm wary of anything Pelosi and her Pals would propose because I've heard they also want illegals and other people that didn't get TrumpBux this last time to get paid in the future. I also fear they will add the same junk they tried to introduce last time (Green New Deal, $15/hr minimum wage, more unionized workers) and not come up with something bipartisan enough to be passed in both chambers.

Think the little Hitler in Michigan will be re-elected?
In Michigan's recent history, governors have managed to serve two terms for better or for worse. Working in Whitmer's favor in all this, she's managed to keep her political interests happy during Michigan's restrictions: elective abortions are still legal when other elective procedures aren't. Medical Recreational marijuana has never been impacted (apart from requiring curbside or in-person delivery), and she's allowing construction to resume this week. So long as she keeps her union constituents and voter base happy, they'll be glad to reelect her. The other important piece to the puzzle is that the Republicans would need to run someone likeable by enough independent and Democratic voters willing to cross party lines. That tends to be easier said than done.

There is just no having a rational conversation with some people about this right now, so I am just not bothering any more.
While some people are willing to agree that some of the restrictions make no sense and that the areas of any given state with no outbreak numbers shouldn't be treated the same as urban hotspots, they're still content to accept the status quo and not be critical of the governor that's imposed those restrictions. It's almost a reverse of TDS in a way. Between this and the doom reported in the daily news, I'm at the point where I largely ignore the mainstream media as much as I can and come here to check the latest first-person accounts on what's happening where.

with some people mentioning they're having some anxiety about their jobs and finances
For those companies that rely largely or solely on clients for revenue, the anxiety and concern is real. Any company whose clients are shut down is probably getting zero revenue because those clients likely have no money with which to pay them. It has the potential to be a big mess the longer shutdowns last without a plan in place to get people working again as it becomes safe and reasonable to do so. People in such staes have every reason to be anxious about their financial well-being when they don't know how long their companies can afford to keep paying them.

He’s been taking quite a bit of heat from a vocal part of the public and other reporters for actually doing his job.
Godbear forbid a reporter actually do their job by demanding answers to relevant questions as opposed to asking the same repetitive softball questions that don't offer any useful information to the public.

Y'all motherfuckers were used to sensible leaders. It's normal you get the cycle of grief for a while. Over here we've been stuck in crazy town since before Cervantes. And our literary tendencies show. I'd say the point at which we reached "acceptance" was when the Esperpento was formalized but even then most clasical spanish literature (cervantes, el lazarillo de tormes, etc.) Were just satires making fun of how bad the country was ran and how crazy some of its inhabitants were.

You guys are like Europe's Florida. Oh wait no, you literally invented Florida then sold it to us. Everything makes sense now.

My governor, a person I have voted for twice, has turned out to be a little Hitler who has completely lost the plot. Not a single word of a timeframe on when things can even start to get back to normal, either. We're just in lockdown indefinitely, I guess ... And it fucking sucks.

They'd pull someone over, ticket them, and then pull another car over for passing the cop car. I am absolutely floored over how disgusting this is. There is no way in hell that this method was not ordered by the governor.

Anyway, my governor is currently on the list of governors who are getting sued. I would like for these lawsuits to go somewhere, but goddamn, I am pessimistic right now. It seems that our government is running wild and drunk on power, and nobody is doing anything about it.

It's a beautiful day outside. Birds are singing, flowers are blooming... on days like these, kids like you... should be shitposting on kiwifarms.

Joked aside. It's a really nice fooking day over here. Politicians have gone apeshit as always. Now even madrid claims we gotta lift lockdowns. And hilariously enough in response andalucia has flipflopped to we gotta negotiate. Oh and also catalonia is now claiming the lockdowns must go. But also asking for power to maintain the lockdown at their leisure... I think this is the political equivalent to a bluescreen. Either way no one cares much. At this point most only seem to check so as to know wtf is the new rule. And even then most just check online for the ones describing them 'cause the media sure ain't helping simplify what we can and cannot do. So point is, all this is doing is cause people to hate the media and stop caring about politicians. And I for one welcome this attitude. Only reason I check is to try to tell you wtf is going on and honestly I have no fucking clue. So yeah...

Otherwise day is super nice. Hospital is going fine. Alarm state is still going down and infected are still going down with it. Overall, nice. Also 2 news about masks. Both hilarious: the Junta de Andalucia (PP) sent us a box full of masks past their expiration date. And hilariously enough, to hide it, has literally just used a marker to cross the date. Which the union quickly found out because due to chink frauds it is already common practice to use alcohol to uncover that kinda data if it's crossed... So yeah. That's fucking funny. Here's the intel: https://www.eldiario.es/andalucia/m...ucadas-documento-Ministerio_0_1022598166.html

Second news, Spiriman, some ultrarightwing nutjob that's been heavily critizicing the gov and spreading conspiracy theories (and at first was taken partially seriously because he was half right but as he kept getting crazier the more he was emboldened halfway through the lockdown wound up being a laughing stock after ranting alex jones style about some crazy shit.) Has decided to prove how he is better than the gov by procuring masks to sell to the farmacies. And is now even more of a laughing stock as on inspection the masks are infact not protective. *slow clap.* https://www.lavanguardia.com/local/...arillas-donadas-spiriman-dudosa-eficacia.html https://www.lavozdegranada.info/spi...ideradas-no-aptas-por-la-autoridad-sanitaria/

(And yes btw. That official poster by the nurses union got a typo, saying "Muestra" instead of "Nuestra", and yes, the memes are glorious.) So overall it's been funny as fuck. As the elements creating the most instanility have had to eat a fuckton of humble pie. The unions are pretending to be offended but I can tell you we've been memeing it up hardcore. I guess this is what victory smells like. Overall most know we're gradually fixing things and exercice helped raise morale so right now most spaniards are just basically collectively high on their own adrenaline. It's a really nice day, and so was yesterday.

We also got one quote from channel 6 from yesterday that is being memed to hell and back. Context: political commentators were having a debate arbitrated by Cristina Pardo, a journo that is honestly one of the funnier elements in A3media, and she was trying to keep them chained but Maruenda (right wing) was going full insane rant and cutting everyone and the left wing chick just kept cutting him back and getting irate, so no one listened to Cristina as she tried to put a stop to the ranting. (Maruenda has a tendency to cause these incidents honestly, he's a trip and a half. In fact he was the one that started the TDS against Iglesias so you can imagine.) And Cristina wound up proclaiming:
"Shut up already that I look like Felipe VI! I don't rule anything and no one listens to me!"
For those that don't know. Felipe VI is the current king of spain. And to be honest. We were already memeing him for being useless. So as you can imagine seeing a program of A3media meme it like that has caused a lot of people to launch their sides into orbit. The memes are glorious. I hope you're also having a good time.

Looks like Kansas City, Missouri will begin to open up on the 6th. One of their requirements is that churches (and all places where people gather for more than 10 minutes) maintain records of attendees, to be turned over to the government in the event of an outbreak. I'm in a religious group on Facebook and there's a big discussion going on about whether this violates civil liberties, will be used for persecuting Christians, is worthy of biblical civil disobedience, ect.

my grandmother called me and asked if it was okay now to go to mass and I was like, why would you want to attend mass in person when you can go to a website and see any mass online? also it's not like a priest is the only one who can do communion.

You guys are like Europe's Florida. Oh wait no, you literally invented Florida then sold it to us. Everything makes sense now.

Hey florida only really went to hell after you bastards pushed all the natives there and got all our guys murdered and brutalized. That's why we sold it to you to begin with! But to be fair... I can't quite disagree with that comparison. Much to my dismay. Except that unlike florida we're actually the 3rd safest country in europe despite the poverty. So yay... Except in Barcelona. Actually Barcelona might actually be Spain's florida. It's filled with anarchists and gypsies, has a criminality through the fucking roof. Misapplied an old law to semilegalize marihuana. And is known for being nearly incomprehensible to the rest of the country.

my grandmother called me and asked if it was okay now to go to mass and I was like, why would you want to attend mass in person when you can go to a website and see any mass online? also it's not like a priest is the only one who can do communion.

Mass is more of a tradition than an actual religiously motivated rite. It helps people psychologically. Which is why they adhere to the ceremony. Asking an old believer to do it online is like asking a NEET to go flirt with girls at the club. They might try it but it won't feel good. Even over here, while catholics have been surprisingly understanding and helpful, they have needed extra community support to handle it. People develop emotional attachment to the pastor, church and flock, it's hard to separate, even temporarily.

How are you going to pick up chicks if you don't actually go to the church? Church is easily a top ten spot to find a partner. Though the odds of them being a psychological/addicted wreck are still about the same.

Spoke to someone who knows meat packing /slaughterhouse illness very well. Interesting (will give long version later but short version is yes, well known as a plague pit.)

-snip-
Horrorfying but not suprising to me. Last HACCP meeting I went to, the sanitation manager was talking about how lysteria was on the production rooms ceiling. Its 45' above the floor, with a daily clean.
The bf went to a different grocery store today and his cashier wasn’t wearing a mask, so he asked if the store offers them to employees or not. The cashier said the store does, but she didn’t want to wear one.

When over 99% of the deaths in my state are either in long-term care facilities or people with “significant underlying conditions” according to the Department of Health, people are bound to figure out they aren’t really at much risk at all and decide the tiny risk is worth getting back to regular life. BTW, bless one local reporter for refusing to let the health officials get away with not releasing those specifics; he asks every day he’s in the press pool how many of the daily deaths occurred in nursing homes because the health commissioner conveniently ”forgets“ to offer that info. He’s been taking quite a bit of heat from a vocal part of the public and other reporters for actually doing his job.
Are we allowed to do a positive dox? This guy sounds like we need him and reporters like him. I dunno, give me my puzzles.

That's truely hilarious, as didn't you say earlier Spain's kings are just living memes anyways?

Tru-dough keeps rolling out, but I'm not entirely certain what will happen gping forward. My area feels like people are just going to start ignoring restrictions. We have a huge tourist season, and I doubt many small buisnesses can survive without that income. As it is, May Long, which is the first big "Summer" party time, is sounding like absolutely noone is going to stop going out for.

If the media here in Canuckistan wasn't 100% funded by government, we would actually have a chance to talk about how our curve locally hasn't just come close to levelling off, I'm pretty sure it dropped off a cliff.

Oh look, whoever has put together the arcgis graphs for BC has learned their skills from AMD/NVidia comparison slides. Because gotta make 17 new cases look like we need continued house arrest. Screenshot_20200504-065414_Brave.jpg

So B.C. is on full lockdown for.. 33 new cases? I know that will jump due to weekend backlog. But still. I have a feeling that this week is going to show who in government and media wants to wear the jackboots. Eat your bugs. Stay in your pod. Consoom fear.

For the blue states, look to see when they reopen the courts. That'll be the litmus test for reopening since they'll reopen the courts amongst the first actions
Depending on the state, I think. Miss Hitler there that shut down the courts has every reason to make sure they stay closed.

I'm on a mailing list from Human Times which is a news aggregator focusing mostly on personnel and employment issues.

Lot of articles recently about expected job cuts, rising unemployment, insufficient furlough/unemployment provisions due to corona. Depressing reading (:_(

For a while the mailing list normally highlighted bullshit articles about lack of trans representation in workplaces or whatever. Did make me wonder if we are going to see a drop off in people caring about a lot of modern social justice issues if things get really bad.

I remember seeing an episode of Penn and Teller bullshit way back when and it stuck with me. It was about some nonsense like raw food vegans or something and they had a guy on who basically said last few generations have had it relatively easy - no great depression, world war etc. If you don't have real hardships you start to make them up so you get middle class people screaming at the poor that eating fast food is murder and that saving the snails is important.

I don't know if that makes sense, this lockdown cabin fever is really fucking with me.

Nobody gives a fuck if true and honest wahman get tittieskittles and danger hair dye when they are worrying if they are going to have 3 hots and a roof.

Report the governor and the police department to the Department of Justice. Very easy to do. Have done that several times already.

In other news, this motherfucking cocksucker is probably the biggest ingrate on Earth. Fuck him in the heart. You can't make this shit up.

In my country we're already seeing a rise in the number of those who have become unemployed, with a quarter of them formerly in the technical unemployment squad, which I am also part of as of March 25th. So, 303.945 contracts canceled and 902.678 suspended with technical unemployment benefits, which is terrible for both the economy and the people, considering that only around 9 million people are of working age here with a population of 19 million.

I'm personally considering looking for a corporate job, since my industry will most likely be affected by this pandemic for at least three years. I used to be picky back when salaries in book selling and publishing were good and I didn't want to sell my soul to one of those glass buildings, but there might not be much of a choice anymore.

I've been wondering about this. Due to the virus, people are disinfecting just about everything and for how long will it be done. This could cause an increase of antibiotic resistant bacteria that will come back to bite us.

Finally got around to watching Cuomo's conference yesterday where he revived the Norheastern States Consortium to buy medical equipment.

A few other interesting points:
-Some governors spoke, in order of who has most stood with him: NJ, then CT-the mainstays, then PA who is in and out of his alliances, then a couple of the others.

-he keeps bringing up the point that he believes the entire East Coast strain came from Europe, which implies that Trump was ineffective in only banning travel first from 'GYNA and could have done more. Also stops people from being rayciss against Our Chinese Friends in NYC, none of whom surely travelled or immigrated from China in Dec-Feb...

-he does slam globalism pretty harshly, saying his breakaway empire will attempt to buy 'Murican whenever possible and came right out and said it's dumb to be so reliant on China, other countries in general, and may actually be a national security risk. Should cause much reeing on the left

-hammered mask wearing. It is the main effective method, it is your civic duty, it would be good if New Yorkers bullied their fellow citizens about not wearing them ("within the rules of decorum"), and while that is preferred, law enforcement would "have a role"
