Two Souls With A Single Dream

This post got nuked before for baseless speculation, so I'm bringing it back with data! The question at hand is: who donates to Jake?
I called in some favors with my data scientists and they ran some queries for me against the original Patreon database that revealed Jake to the world in the first place. Recall that this data is from roughly September 2015, which is to say, in Jake's heyday. Gamergate was still a thing, Jake was still a CON member in good standing, and he hadn't yet burned his bridges with CHELSAY, Randi, Soha, or any of the rogues' gallery.

So, how much was our busty heroine pulling in at the time? Precisely $30 per month, from 9 contributors.

Of the uncategorized: "Gustavo" seems to be a Brazilian who's just into "sex positivity" and gaming. "Stephen" is a single-purpose account that donated only to Jake. And "Patrick Lindsey" backed only Jake and one online zine about gaming.

So what can we conclude? Jake got little to no "professional courtesy" from his days in CON. Only two of his best friends in the world donated, and no best friend was good for more than one or two "referrals". In fact, Jake's own personal pull seems to have been more than he got from any CON member. Their social circles, by this measurement, barely intersect.
Another interesting side note is that some of the people who now count among Jake's best friends originally orbited other people. SFtheWolf is on there only to back Zoe Quinn; MadamPlumpette (who since abandoned Jake) shows up on Peter Coffin's donors.
Looking at this another way: despite Jake's fixation on the CON days, the overwhelming majority of his financial support is from people who didn't know or care he existed back then.

But what if we look at it from the other side? Going right to the Polaris of Jake's celestial sphere, we find that Zoe Quinn had 924 followers totaling $3778 monthly at the time. She shared 195/454 patrons in common with Randi, 205/617 in common with Brianna Wu, and 11/31 in common with Peter Coffin. (Randi had 11/31 followers in common with Coffin as well, 8 of which were donors to all 3 sample CON members)
What this indicates is that while the big-name CON members (and Wu) did have a fairly substantial overlap in their audiences, they did absolutely nothing to cross-promote their foot soldiers like Jake - even the ones who personally tossed pity bucks his way.

Finally, there's been some on-and-off speculation that Jake (or various others) engage in circular donations to artificially inflate their totals. By and large, this turns out not to be true in the 2015 data set. Out of the people examined here, only Peter Coffin did the classic "I donate to you, you donate to me" pattern, with 5 people.

In this chart, a cycle of length 2 indicates that the money went to one person and then right back. Length 3 means that it went to one person, then another, and then back. And so on. I leave it up to the reader to interpret the "speed" with which money starts to loop back. But at any rate, it seems highly unlikely that long "chains" are planned.

This just makes it all the more interesting to ponder where Jake's money is coming from now. The bridges he burned were worthless in terms of dollar amount. Is it all furries now?

If someone is posing an imminent threat to somebody's life, yeah, I'll publicly condemn that, but like... I don't go around all day thinking "oh boy, I hope I can find someone evil enough to justify telling everyone about it!" I'm not linking to this because I can think of quite a few better ways to spend my time and energy tearing someone I don't know down for harassing someone over nothing but like... fuck! Read a book? Watch a movie? Create something? Drop $5 on steam and play this crappy game for context?

Even if you're locked up in your home with no outlet at all but the internet, there are hundreds and hundreds of things you can do with your time to actually make the world a better place and/or keep yourself amused in a way that doesn't harm anyone else, so really just WTF? Like, I'm not making this argument from some weird bubble where no person exists that I just can't stand. Got plenty of those. If I were the type I'm sure I could stock a whole warehouse with grudges both petty and based in some serious legit trauma and get thousands of people to tear dozens of people who have done me harm to pieces, but I cannot for the life of me think of any real upside to doing that. Pretty sure it'd just turn my whole life into a flaming hell pit of constant anger and retribution and I get enough of a taste of that as a result of all the weird fanfiction stalkers write about me that people decide to treat as reality.

And like, I also get the basic social instinct everyone has where you see someone say "I am so damn angry at Bruce" and you just wanna show solidarity and go "yeah fuck Bruce whoever he is!" but like... you say that in a reasonable tone in the private moment directly to that person. You don't bust out a megaphone for it. Especially if you aren't going to do any real fact checking and you're just playing cheerleader.

Just... don't join witch hunts. It shouldn't be hard.
