No TV network should be airing Donald Trump‘s daily rallies. They’re not informative, and they’ve become a substitute for his campaign rallies, where he mocks the press for quoting him directly, stirs up resentment toward his perceived enemies, and throws out slurs against groups he doesn’t like. Every network can easily air clips afterwards, fact-check them as they do it, and offer the full video online for anyone who wants to watch it. It would be a better public service if they did that.

Today’s episode was a perfect example of why.

Rather than offer useful information, Trump ceded time to Mike Lindell, the CEO of MyPillow and a low-level hero among MAGA cultists, who used the opportunity to praise Jesus during the “briefing” with the presidential seal right below him on the podium.

“God gave us grace on Nov. 8, 2016, to change the course we were on,” Lindell said, referencing the day of Trump’s election. “God had been taken out of our schools and lives, a nation had turned its back on god. I encourage you to use this time at home to get back in the word, read our Bibles and spend time with our families.”

Lindell, standing behind a podium bearing the presidential seal, said Trump “gave us so much hope” and cited the strong economy that has since cratered due to the virus.

“With our great president, vice president, and this administration and all the great people in this country praying daily, we will get through this and get back to a place that’s stronger and safer than ever,” he said.

We know Trump lies. But now he’s bringing in people to lie for him.

Lindell is wrong. God was never “taken out” of school because students are welcome to pray or read their bibles. Forced Christian prayers are no longer acceptable — as it should be. (Trump hasn’t changed that, either.)

The nation hasn’t “turned its back on God,” since the majority of people are still religious. They’re just starting to recognize that white evangelical Christianity has become a cover for a political party that cares more about power than Jesus. If anything, Trump has only made that distinction more clear.

And the idea that this administration, which dragged its feet in responding to COVID-19 while refusing to provide complete aid to states if their governors don’t show sufficient obsequiousness, is going to make us stronger has been disproven more times that we should have to count.

It is appalling that anyone, much less a president, would waste the nation’s time by allowing a pandemic briefing to turn into a church service. It’s even more disturbing how few people care. Then again, given all the ways this administration tramples over the Constitution, you can hardly blame the media for not sufficiently covering them all.

Ok maybe the point is going over your head.

No, it's not. You're just concerned about irrelevant crap that nobody in their right mind would care about in the middle of a multifaceted crisis that's already claimed the lives of 3,000 people. Get a grip.

I'd imagine if he went out there and said "Hillary Clinton is a beautiful, honest, strong and intelligent woman" there wouldn't be so many people so quick to defend his actions 🤷

And I quote myself,

Trump could have secured help from a guy who praised the god of Islam and his prophet Muhammad from that podium before performing salat right there and I still wouldn't be able to give less of a damn.

I'm not concerned at all, I just think it was stupid and unnecessary even having him anywhere near a stage let alone let him sperg out whatever dumb shit he wanted. This isn't the time nor was it the place to pull that shit for anybody. That you're willing to let it slide because he did a non-issue and are willing to asspat him for it is incredible.

You should try listening to people instead of imagining what they would do. Everyone is telling you that we don't care what the guy believes; he's contributing to mitigating the crisis. It's only reactionary pissbabies who try to divine the motives and intentions of other people to hand-wave the good things they're doing.

So he's benefitting from a crisis, and so it's ok for him to get recognition for it and is beyond criticism for what he uses his platform to say then? He's not honestly sacrificing anything for this deal and is probably profiting better off of his change in workload. Making him out to be a hero or a decent person is disingenuous. The only thing I can even rationalize here that people would be so hot to defend this dude is his message because he sure isn't doing anything else worthy of note.

Ok maybe the point is going over your head. Why does one person get to be singled out of all the manufacturers of items to fight against this pandemic as doing something constructive
Maybe because it isn't all that important or relevant who gets "singled out"?

and is incapable of being criticized for sperging out about his religion
You're not "criticizing" him for "sperging out about his religion", you're autistically pearl-clutching because he mentioned God once or twice.

when there are plenty of people doing what he's doing or better that are doing it just as selflessly as he is who aren't getting the same recognition?
What the fuck is this bullshit? This isn't an everyone-or-no-one thing. It isn't important who or how many people Trump brought up. If others really wanted the recognition, they can talk to Trump's staff about it.

It's clickbait bullshit virtue signaling.
Making some mumbles about how America needs Jesus isn't virtue signalling. Making sure everyone knows just how passionately you love Jesus constantly, while doing nothing else, is virtue signalling.

Do I need to walk you through his actions being opportunist at worst and nothing out of the ordinary at best?
To be able to walk someone through something, you need to not be a paraplegic yourself.

I'd imagine if he went out there and said "Hillary Clinton is a beautiful, honest, strong and intelligent woman" there wouldn't be so many people so quick to defend his actions 🤷
I wouldn't care about his hypothetical opinion on Hillary Clinton, as long as he kept making masks to help the people.

I'm getting pretty sure now that if Trump brough in the Reverend Dr. Fauci, you suddenly wouldn't find it "stupid and unnecessary", despite Fauci being a blatantly astroturfed media darling who really isn't presenting anything new about the virus.

Dude, you aren’t going to burst into flame/be infected by Corona-chan just by hearing “Jesus Christ”, “God”, or “the Bible”. I promise.

It's weird how every media source sperging about Chuck Lindell is ignoring the fact that he converted his factory to make N95 respirators.
Oh. That makes sense that he would appear in front of Trump then. It's kinda sad I can't even trust the fucking media to tell me the fucking truth. I know any politician is going to lie to me but I shouldn't expect the fucking news to lie to me as well.

So he's benefitting from a crisis

Literally any company stepping up to the plate to produce masks is "benefiting from this crisis". You want to know who's benefiting from these companies "benefiting from this crisis"?

Our doctors and nurses who are exposed to COVID-19 patients. Perhaps, in the future, the populace who will be encouraged to get masks that aren't in short supply.

This isn't r/atheism, go away

No you don't understand, it's stupid and unnecessary for Chuck Lindell to have been there at all, let alone be allowed to say such dumb shit as "God", "Jesus Christ", and "the Bible". You're just giving him asspats for it because you agree with the "shit" he's "pulling", despite it not being the time or place for that.

I thought the SJWs were bad about asspatting and wagon circling. This is some next level fuckery.

If a crisis like this happened 10 years ago, they would've commended the guy for helping out the doctors. These people are SOOOOO consumed by rage, I feel like they're gonna die of a premature heart attack.

I think you should take some advice from St. Paul on your atheism. From Corinthians 15:32 - If the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die. In other words, if you genuinely believe that this life is all you have then you should enjoy it. Getting this irrationally angry at somebody for mentioning their personal belief doesn't seem very conducive to enjoyment.

You live in a world with over 7 billion people each with their own unique viewpoint. If someone benignly stating their belief while doing a good act makes you this ass mad then you should ask what it is in yourself that's wrong.

It wasn't benignly stating their belief, it was crying about some imagined persecution complex and how their world view needed to be reinstilled into the populace. Not on some Twitter feed or Facebook post or journalistic piece. On a government platform. If he cut out the part about Christian beliefs and gave a canned response about how his prayers were with people or something or he hoped God would hurry up on a cure or something whatever no big deal. I'm not angry, I just find it extremely hypocritical on a site like this that someone using their platform to push their worldview is completely defensible because he did what, turned his possibly failing pillow manufacturing company into a place to make some masks? That he's going to sell, for profit. It would be like me saying "I mowed my lawn for you" and you praised me and let me tell your kid about the benefits of heroine.
