For those in America, watch out for West Virginia. It will serve as a prime example of spread rates where there is "apparently" just 1 case, and the Gov has opted to close all schools, bars and etc. for precautions.

I say to watch it because it will serve as an interesting model. The state had virtually denied anyone testing, despite even nurses and doctors begging to be tested but were denied. More people go through a McDonalds drive through in an hour than were tested in the entire state up until 17 March 2020. Yet schools were shuttered around 12 March even before the first case was confirmed on 17 March.

This example of social distancing, even without really any cases will show just how vast the virus actually is. I expect to see in 2 weeks a huge spike in hospital admissions and deaths and it will be curious to see if they even bother to test them.

1.8 Million population. Huge Elderly population. A lot of people with medical conditions due to all the chemicals they dump there, poor water quality etc.

Exceptionally well spread out population also, one of the most spread for any state. It will make for interesting modeling because outside on the few central towns, often there are not even sidewalks so spread can only really happen by people visiting one another.

So my younger brother just found out that all his roommates were fired and no way in hell are they making rent. (All his roommates are in non grocery retail/hotel work)

I'm going to loan him the money to cover him for the month and then let him use my guest bedroom until shit blows over. (He only just moved out and doesn't have much physical possessions yet so it'll be easy for him to pack and go.)

This is just a small little anecdote coming from me personally, but don't be suprised if the situation gets a lot more common when most rents come due April 1. We could be looking at a massive amount of displaced people.

This is why the moratorium on rent needs to happen for everyone. If what Yang(Romney) is promoting goes through it'll allow those who get those checks to spend them on the essentials and not be sol when rent payments come. Granted 1K for some people is not even enough to cover themselves for a months, but I think if the money is coming from a different place (and not just being printed) it'll flow better into the economy and get those people back on track quicker.

Well.....some dumb nigga I live with has almost certainly got it and I found out today someone I work with has reported in that she has it....and ive had a headache and a cough for 24 hours now so im officially going into isolation for the coming fortnight.

This is happening a lot, unfortunately. A friend in Washington notified me that their coworker at a gas station tested positive for COVID-19 but that the gas station refuses to sanitize anything (they’re already disgusting about that) and/or tell anyone about the case. Problem is, my friend is asthmatic and immunocompromised, so now they have to pay the price for it.

It’s stupidity like this that makes it easier for this shit to spread. Smh.

There is no nationally-established clinical standard for testing. Tell that provider to go fuck themselves and make calls until you find someone who will test you.

If you have the three major symptoms (fever, dry cough, shortness of breath) there is no reason why they should not at least be testing you for cold/flu (which give results in a matter of minutes) and then proceeding to COVID-19 testing if those come back negative.

Seems we're back to the rollercoaster of emotions that is the spanish political landscape. Had you asked me this morning, I might've told you spain is breaking. In fact that's why I haven't given the morning news I was helping my sick family member raise hell and high water. The government pushed a button that just should never be pushed. Also the PP and PSOE are again spewing nothing but "muh national unity" shit and fucking everything up, and god I hate them for it. I swear sanchez and casado have been INSUFERABLE. Specially casado 'cause Sanchez is the prez so we all knew he had to pull shit. But at this point I ain't giving Sanchez a pass either, because this was a fuckup of ASTRONOMICAL issues.

So. Let me get into what just went down. Hospital gear gets into the hospitals every monday. This monday ALL of Andalucia recieved NOTHING. So. What had happened? This sunday the government sent the federal cops to the factories feeding that gear. Told them to take everything and then sent the healthcare system a note saying ALL production of EVERYTHING was being confiscated until further notice. You can imagine how shit went down.

This is not however what hurt the most. What hurt the most is when the SAS obviously started to raise hell the media had the balls to tell us we were not being solidary enough and we needed to do more for spain because Andalucians are lazy. So... I guess it's time for a history lesson. I'm sorry I know at this point I'm just that old guy that tells war stories all the time, but well, it's necessary this time.

Andalusians have always been the most suffered people of spain. It is us doing the most high risk jobs everywhwre. We work for slave wages on the Catalonian factories, we man the fields, we reinforce everybody else's healthcare. Andalucia has been pushing spain forward since forever and we do it with a smile. Hell we've been pushing ALL OF EUROPE since forever. Where do you think all the migrants that manned the french and german fields came from? IT WAS US, THEY ARE HERE, THAT'S WHY MERKEL CAN'T FIND WORKERS ANYMORE. Because we know we have the most people. Our lifes are simply worth less due to the high population and low industrialization. So, you can imagine when the government literslly steals ALL our gear and gear production without even an ending date to the madness and then the media covers their asses with those tired tropes... People were ready to fucking riot. The healthcare unions haven't even yet recovered from this. We almost did some crazy shit, like, I talked about putchforks before but this time it was getting to the point where the pitchforks almost got literal. And then... Catalonia came.

It's funny you know. As I mentioned before Catalonia is the oligarchs of spain. It's usually them using those stereotypes for political points, it's usually them getting the whip out so we build their pyramids faster. And they've been the second most batered autonomy by corona, they need help about as much as madrid. They also have spain's biggest textile industry center.

And as from Moncloa the PSOE fucked us over while the PP did what it could to lobby so no private business would have to do anything, claiming Podemos was beint stalinist for even suggesting in a period in which THE ARMY ROAMS THE STREET maybe it's time we tell the industry did something, Inditex, the catalonian conglomerate behind the spanish textile industry just communicated they had been shifting production to medical gear and are about to drop the first cache, for free, on terms even podemos wouldn't dare to ask for, no strings attached, just aiding spain hoping we'll pay market value after the fact on their own volition, PP and their bollocks be fucked. And so, suddently the government has lost all publicity against andalucia, and part of our shipment is already coming back, and while until Inditex gets into high gear we'll have to ration things out a bit more, now we have a solid end in sight.

It's not every day Andalucia lies broken and Catalonia reaches out to us with aid, you know. It's usually the other way around. So, this has been eye opening for many. Guaranteed. Myself, my family, two siblings and their families, and several friends and their families are all experiencing similar symptoms. Probably twenty five people all in. This is across four European countries. Dry cough, low fever, general shitty feeling, headache, sore throat. Is it corona? No idea. Maybe it’s just another respiratory bug that’s going around. It’s getting to the end of that season though now. We usually see a dramatic drop around Easter or April
Nobody is going to the doctor or even reporting It because all their respective health systems will / can do nothing unless they need hospitalisation, all the national helplines are chocka and they are staying home to avoid infecting others.
How you can tease out numbers of mild cases I don't know. Everyone is locked down, not bothering to call the doc, and off work or wfh. The only proxy measure will be people turning up at the hospitals. They are very busy where I am but not totally overrun like Italy. Yet.
The sooner we have a serological test to pick up who has had it and recovered the better.
