Tech reporter Peter Bright has been arrested for soliciting sex with children online. He was employed by Ars Technica until recently.

A federal complaint alleges that Bright sought to molest a 7- and 9-year-old and met with an undercover agent for this purpose, at which point he was arrested. It also states that Bright claimed to be in a sexual relationship with an 11-year-old. He is currently being held without bail.

According to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, an undercover FBI special agent made contact with Bright on KinkD, a social media fetish platform, on April 18.

Bright, using the handle “randomanon,” had responded to a message the agent posted a day prior in which she purported to be a mother seeking to connect with people who could teach her children about “birds and the bees.”

The complaint states that in subsequent messages, the agent informed Bright that she had a 7-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son.

At Bright’s urging, the two then began chatting via WhatsApp, which continued for a few weeks. At times using euphemisms, Bright reportedly wrote of molesting both children and raping the 7-year-old. He also allegedly sent pictures of his penis, and photos of test results showing he did not have any sexually transmitted diseases.

And the award for "Tweets that didn't age well" goes to:

Considering who serves on juries, probably. I don't know a single person who hasn't avoided serving on one.
I've served on juries before and the experience generally gave me confidence in the system. Jackasses were weeded out and the jurors I served with were all people that I would be fine leaving my fate to. I had pretty low opinions about juries before sitting through a case, like a lot of people. The first one it turned out I was an alternate, and I was half happy because while it was obvious the accused was guilty, the prosecutors didn't do their job well and the defense failed equally. Felt a little guilty about being able to walk out of the courthouse leaving the mess to the others. It's almost always a group of good people trying to get it right.

It's only in circus cases like this where it's really hard to seat a jury where things get stupid. People should have a better attitude towards it, jurors are the last line of protection against the government having total control over people having their stuff taken or getting locked away. It's generally a day or two once or twice in your lifetime checking the power of government, it's a small sacrifice for something so important.

Do you know what a nightmare it is to serve in NYC? You're in a room with a bunch of other people all day long. Rarely do you get chosen and if you do, you're asked a bunch of questions and then it's back to the jury pool. If you don't work for a large employer you aren't getting paid anything but the lousy $40 a day NY state requires and while it's illegal for your employer to fire you for jury duty, most people don't want to deal with it. If you do get selected most of the time there's no trial because ADAs and defense attorneys arrange plea arrangements. It's boring, financially ruinous and in an expensive city like New York it's not a small sacrifice. I agree it's important and it should be easier to serve on a jury but it's a hardship in a large city, one that few people get excused from so they just don't bother. Federal court might be different but it's probably similar.

If he skates expect the SJ crowd to allow him to slowly reenter their folds. A few Medium or Quillette posts about the state of corrections facilities and "NoMAP shaming"? They'll be kissing his hairy ass in no time flat. Then the rest of his life will be people responding with ACKSHUALLY...HE WAS NEVER CONVICTED, QED CASE OVER TRUMPTARD when this sick fuck's crimes are brought up.

"ORDER granting 51 LETTER MOTION as to Peter Bright (1). ORDERED that the Bureau of Prisons, the Metropolitan Correctional Center - New York, and the United States Marshals Service accept the following clothing for Mr. Bright, Register Number 76309-054, to wear for appearances at his trial commencing on March 10, 2020 and continuing thereafter. SO ORDERED. (Signed by Judge P. Kevin Castel on 3/4/2020) (jbo)"

That was quick. Let's hope the prosecution keeps the simps and NAMBLA members off the jury this time.

Once Commander Taco sold out, Ars Technica and a great many others such (later on) as Anand Tech and Tom's Hardware turned into absolute shit. A reason why I got out of being a Tech Reporter in the early 2000's. You can only take enough funk from IT/coders who thought bathing was optional and then you have to question whom they hire afterwards as well.

I remember the big blog buyouts happening about 10 years ago weirding people out. It was like the move away from genuine nerdy, hyper enthusiastic followers of industry to journalists who specialized in whatever topic. Now it feels like whoever owns these companies pushes for rage clicks and getting woke points in the hopes it grants them shielding later on. No one can be mean to ARS, they did their duty 'dunking on drumpf' and using pronouns! See?! He's a victim too! He wanted to diddle kids but that's only 'cause he done got diddled too by an older more powerful patriarchy member!

GUILTY! Buh-bye bitch. Enjoy your age-play with Bubba:

"On March 12 with Bright again on the witness stand, bragging how he makes "littles order off the kids' menu," Inner City Press live tweeted, here:

Bright: I live in Bushwick... With anal, you have to know what you're doing. Real people are not porn stars.

He says "girl" in the Bronx was 30, Alicia.

Bright: I'm pretty sure vibrators are not used in classrooms. But we were fantasizing. ... It's called after-care in the kink world.

Bright: I know someone who tweets out her STDs test results every time. In the polyamorous world we are responsible

Peter Bright: One of the joys of working at home is I can walk around naked. #Coronavirus

Bright (looking at jurors, some mouth agape) "A lot of Americans have never seen, at least first hand, an uncircumsized pen*s"

Peter Bright: When in photos I'm holding two Starbucks cups, I'm double fisting, it's a double entendre"

Seriously dude? You said this shit in your own defense?

Anyway. He's facing 10 to life, and a quick Google search suggests 15 is what he's realistically facing.

Guys like this always always always fuck up in some fashion or the other. They're never as slick or clean as they think they are, and "normies" aren't nearly as cool with their double-entendres or "age play" or whatever fucked up kinks are the side order to their deluxe perversions as they want to believe. "Hey yeah if I just like...explain, you know, that saying stuff like 'I fuck kids' or 'anal play with a little kid is where it's at' I mean they'll obviously get it, right? Right???"

Glad to see this prick get what's coming. I've been waiting to write 'GUILTY' in the thread's subtitle for a while.

If only every Twitter bugman could receive that wake up call.

Former Ars Technica writer Peter Bright was found guilty of attempted enticement of a minor for sex on Monday according to Inner City Press.

The tech writer was arrested in May of last year after he set up a meeting with who he thought was a mother of a seven-year-old girl and nine-year-old boy. An FBI agent had been posing as the “mother” and communicating with Bright online. In the correspondences, Bright said he planned to molest both children and rape the girl, according to the Daily Dot.

“VERDICT: In Retrial @ArsTechnica Peter Bright Is Found Guilty of Attempted Enticement Of a Minor For Sex, Says Jury In Empty #SDNY Court,” @innercitypress tweeted.

The Daily Dot confirmed through court documents that Bright had been convicted.

U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York first filed the complaint last June. Bright had been held without bail until his first trial in February of this year. On Feb. 19, that ended in a mistrial after the jury could not come to a final decision.

It’s not clear what held up the jury at the first trial, but Bright claimed his behavior was him age acting. Inner City Press reported that Bright also made claims about his sexual interest that would contradict the charges.

“(Bright) says he prefers full bodied women with a lot of body hair – but denied that (Bright) actually likes children,” Inner City Press wrote.

The evidence against Bright lies in his WhatsApp messages with the FBI agent. In addition to verbally committing to raping and molesting the minors, Bright sent a nude photograph of himself and confessed to molesting an 11-year-old girl in the Bronx. That claim has yet to be proven.

The FBI agent originally found Bright on KinkD, a social media fetish platform, in April. The “mother” said she was looking for someone to teach her children about the “birds and the bees.” Bright volunteered to “teach.”

After a month of correspondence, they set up an in-person meet. Bright was carrying condoms upon arrest.

As Bright awaits his sentence, his Twitter profile remains active. His bio states “Poly/pan/pervy.”

I assume these quotes are from the other police interviews, rather than his actual defense in court? That or his circle was so perverted, that he literally thought telling a bunch of normies how his weenie gets biggy when he makes his date order the happy meal was actually going to work for him. The cherry on top is him going on about exceptional aspects of his sex life to boot. I bet momma and poppa were impressed.

I did worry he might get away with the mistaken kink defense. But his story was odd in that the IM records never had him check real ages of potential participants and he still went along with it even if he supposedly twigged it was all a bit fishy.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Now, the question is whether or not he gets put in maximum security or medium security, that will probably determine his ultimate fate more than anything.

Seeing as he actively tried to solicit sex from actual minors and not just CP, he's definitely not going to a minimum security prison.

The only pedos who get sent to minimum security are guys like Thad who get busted for CP but otherwise have a clean record and take a plea deal to avoid doing really hard time, and those guys are often are considered "low risk" because they're often evaluated and found to be too afraid or too incompetent to go out and directly harm a child themselves.

Seeing as Peter Bright did not take a plea deal and got busted for actively soliciting sex with a minor, he's probably going to a maximum security place but there is a chance that if he doesn't have any prior crimes on his record, he might get lucky and get put in a medium security joint under some sort of protective custody since it seems he was convicted of solicitation and not molestation.

If Bright ends up in a medium security facility, he might have a chance of making it out alive if he gets put in protective custody right away and goes above and beyond to keep his head down and stay off anyone's radar.

If he gets put in a maximum security facility, he's a dead man walking whether he's in protective custody or not.
