Gov. Gavin Newsom has proposed halting physical fitness tests in California schools to study whether they encourage bullying and discrimination.

Under the proposal, schools would drop physical fitness tests until at least 2024 to study whether the test promotes body shaming or gender identity discrimination. H.D. Palmer, spokesman for the California Department of Finance, said the state has received complaints that the test’s measurement of body mass index (BMI) is discriminatory to gender nonbinary students.

The test is currently administered to students in fifth, seventh and ninth grades. BMI screenings, calculated using height and weight, require students to select male or female.

During the suspension, the California Department of Education would consult with experts in fitness, adaptive physical education, gender identity and students with disabilities regarding “the purpose and administration of the physical performance test,” according to the proposal, which was released quietly inside the education budget bill for next year.

“Given the body of research on the impacts of bullying on transgender and special education students, during this period of suspension, it’s important to take this pause and determine whether the current test can be modified or whether a new assessment should be developed,” Palmer said on Monday, according to Politico.

Physical fitness tests have been encouraged by the federal government for decades, and California public schools have required the test since 1996.

In 2012, then-President Barack Obama tweaked the test to focus more on student health rather than athleticism, including running assessments, push-ups, curl-ups and “sit and reach” stretches.

About 60 percent of last year’s tested students in California fell in the “healthy fitness zone,” according to the latest California Department of Education data.

Retired Navy SEAL David Goggins -- the only member of the U.S. Armed Forces to complete SEAL training, Army Ranger School and Air Force controller training -- is the definition of the "Great American Comeback," according to Tennessee Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn.

Goggins will be Blackburn's guest at President Trump's State of the Union address -- themed "The Great American Comeback" -- Tuesday evening.

Appearing on "Fox & Friends" with host Steve Doocy, Blackburn said that Goggins' life represented the "perfect comeback story as we talk about our nation's comeback story.'"

Goggins lost 106 pounds in less than three months in pursuit of a career in service to the nation. He said that he "found [himself]" in that process.

He decided to be a patriot because his country had given him the "great opportunity to become someone," after battling low self-esteem and demons stemming from his childhood.

"So, I had to first work on myself and...stop blaming everybody for my issues," he told Doocy.

"Honestly, Jenny Craig wasn't around for me, so basically I just ate very little and worked out like a madman. And, during that process is where I found myself," he explained.

"In our nation, people have the opportunity to dream big dreams and then to find a way to make those dreams come true and that's exactly what David has done," said Blackburn.

"He found the path that worked for him and that's what the American dream is all about," she concluded.

Ah yes, the way to cut down on bullying around obesity is to encourage more obesity.

The upside to this is that I love to watch fat kids fall down and cry so bring on the youtube videos.
 
In my experience, having grown up in California, what actually led to bullying in PE was team sports where the kids who weren't very good at that sport (or any sport) would get shit on for it (and now that I'm an adult, I have to laugh at the dumb kids who took fucking PE flag football seriously enough to get angry about it, but I digress).

If these people are that concerned about PE bullying and the physical fitness of kids, they'd offer more individualized options for exercise, but they don't, because buying enough weight equipment and treadmills for an entire PE class is way more expensive than handing over a basketball or volleyball to ten students.
 
Grew up in California, none of us gave a shit about athletic abilities and just wanted P.E. to end so we didn't have to physically exert ourselves more than we wanted to.

If I received complaints from "nonbinary" people about how the education system isn't willing to walk on eggshells for them, I'd tell them to get fucked. Newsom is a pussy for giving in to these cunts.
 
Why can't they just have classes based on lifting, squats, pushups, and planking?

You can stay in place for all those exercises. No running needed.
