It was like 20-25 years ago, but I seem to remember a President that was a philandering womanizer, a habitual liar who abused his powers of office, took
foreign money in exchange for influence and even sold out
the White House itself. I also seem to remember the opposing party claiming that if the country let him get away with it, that would normalize immorality, excuse terrible behavior by the President, and irreparably damage the moral fabric of public society.
On a
completely unrelated note, after that guy skated by with full support from his party, some other dude named Donald Trump suddenly felt confident enough to try a Presidential bid in the 2000 election.
