"In 2006, “Nightmare Fuel” was added to Urban Dictionary[8], who used shock sites Goatse, Lemon Party and Tubgirl as examples. In 2008, it was defined a second time, with the 1974 Screen Gems logo known as “The S From Hell” as an example. Also in 2008, Lemon Demon released a song titled “Nightmare Fuel”[9] as a bonus track on the album View-Monster."
I am trying to wrap my head around this "Scary S" and "scare factor" in the most abstract sense. It seems totally benign to me compared to something like the THQ screen card, which even I knew as a young child was a pretty neat audio test. I plugged in my Bose to hear the "scary s", and I dunno. Maybe they heard it enough that it is like Chinese water torture to them by this point. Just a drop of water in a series of thousands.

looking at the rules, there's:

27.) We are not interested in any screen plays, novels, other works of fiction or anything. This is the CLG Wiki and it's about logos and nothing more.

i wonder if our dear friend connor had anything to do with this

I've never understood what was so frightening about that one Screen Gems logo. When I finally saw it a few years ago after reading a different 'scary closing logo' thread elsewhere, I just did not see the big deal. All right, the background music is a bit annoying, but otherwise, not at all scary to me.

On the other hand, as a kid, Viacom's V of Doom was pretty uncomfortable to deal with. And then I started to notice a lot of local TV stations would cut off the V of Doom halfway through and immediately go to commercials. I used to wonder if people working in television were doing that on purpose, not because management wanted to put in one more advertisement before the next show, but because they were either sick of, or were still frightened by the V of Doom.

I am loving this thread. I do remember some of the logos as being more annoying to me then scary because of the music, especially the Viacom thing. I would think they have to be catchy and loud so you notice and remember who made whatever you were watching. I used to watch the stuff uploaded a few years back for nostalgia, I didn't realize people were going so far with it nowadays. For me this is a truly creepy closing thingie by the way

Especially since Protect and Survive came at a time when the threat of Nuclear Attack was *still* a real possibility (I believe it was the late 70's, early 80's when Protect and Survive PIF's came out, yes?)

Wow, there is a whole community for closing logos?
those have to be the dullest human beings on this planet, what life do you lead to get you get excited by logos?
Drew Pickles strikes again!
The Barney Bunch just can't help but increase the already off-the-charts sperg level on everything it seems.
Little off topic but, I think we should have a thread on the Barney bunch, I hear about them a lot on here and might be cringy enough for its own thread

Did anyone mention the ITC Entertainment logo yet? As in the terrifying ten brass notes you'd hear before Scooter tells this week's guest star that they're on in five minutes?

History of the ITC Entertainment logo.

Also, my pick for most awesome logo sequence (weeaboo alert).

This is legit. I've seen many people on YouTube obsessed with closing logos from the 60s and 70s.

They kind of tie in with the same people obsessed with Emergency Alert System videos, which merits its own thread.

Back when I was actively trolling on YouTube, one of my targets was the EAS crowd, because you could rile them up so easily. I might make that thread...

Apparently, not much of one at all.
