There's another interesting conclusion in that paper: transsexual individuals had been hospitalized for psychiatric morbidity other than gender identity disorder prior to sex reassignment about four times more often than controls. Transitioning generally aids in mental health care. The feelings of being the wrong gender don't go away.

These would seem to be contradictory statements.

The solution for transitioning is the "best" we have, which doesn't mean it's very good.

It's nowhere near the "best" we have. It's the worst we have. See above: it doesn't make the feeling of being the wrong gender go away. i.e. it does absolutely nothing to resolve the underlying condition or even treat the symptoms.

The best we have is therapy. It's such a shame people are so eager to shit on the idea of maybe helping people realize they're not the "wrong" gender instead of slicing them up to fake it.
