It's beyond unprofessional; with his stupid "tee hee" kissy face he's 100% taking the piss. There are two other faculty on the department page who don't have professional pictures: train crash guy and blurry 1980s photo guy. Unsurprisingly, both men.

[Side note to Kiwis who scroll through the department page: there are a few very mannish-looking women, but they are women. As far as I can tell, Lavery is the only troon.]

Grace is by far the worst. The train crash guy is just weird and I didn't even notice the blurry pic guy. Grace's picture looks like something a horny high school freshman would take when they're trying to be sexy. It's like a shitty Facebook tier selfie.

Just imagine a regular woman trying to justify to her boss that she dresses and poses with her tits out so women will feel MORE empowered to show off their tits at work. If they weren't outright fired, they'd never be taken seriously.

He acts like we don't want to see professors dressing like porn stars because we're a boring prudes. The reality is, people want to know that their professors take the job seriously. People wouldn't like it if you came to work dressed in stained clothes, clothes too big, or wore an outfit that was inappropriate for the weather (e.g wearing a wool sweater when it's 100 degrees outside). How you dress at work reflects on how you are as a person; if you come to work in stained clothes, that tells people you fail at basic hygiene and that will cause them to worry. After all, if you can't even do something as basic as wear clean clothes, then how can people expect you to do your job correctly?

If I was a student that stepped into his classroom, I would instantly lose confidence in his ability to teach me anything, not because society taught me to hate women who show off their skin, but because WHY would you dress in a way that brings sexual attention to yourself when you're supposed to be educating people about English? I would instantly think "This person is dressing this way to get attention. They care more about their appearance and how we react than they care about the subject I'm here to learn." I would instantly think this person is here for a paycheck, they aren't here because they love the subject and want me to learn more about it. There's nothing "empowering" about that.

In some ways, it's courteous of him to pose in his picture like that. It gives potential students a massive warning that he's a pervert who doesn't take his job terribly seriously. I'd stay away from any professor who posed like that in a professional picture, especially one who was male.

If someone I was dating referred to me as their 'sex partner' in anything other than private conversation between ourselves as a joke they'd be out the fucking door. A partner is not just a sexual object, they're someone you build your life with, your support, most importantly they are a person.

This troon doesn't care about anyone but themselves. Even in the post about the rehearsal with the chain, why???, they don't make the point that it was the woman who told them to take the pic with the chain, the woman's instagram post gives the context. Like honey, if his ass won't even casually mention you there I can't imagine how pushed aside you are in every other aspect of your life.

This poor woman has been manipulated into destroying herself and her relationship with her family for someone who only thinks of them as a body, a sexual commodity, not a person and who only looks at others around them through the lens of how they might get twitter/instagram likes and victim points. This isn't a healthy relationship, it's strait up abuse.

I would fine with sexual partner also in medical settings but generally I agree. Even if our relationship was primarily just about sex, I would like be be referred by something nicer like friends with benefits. People don’t really enjoy being reduced into a minor action only.

Still to be fair, might be that “the sex partner” is cool or even game up with the term because it’s so rebellious, completely neutral or something. People can be dumb like that especially gender special circles.

Those are much different circumstances then to the whole world available to be read on Instagram. Sure that'd be acceptable- if the rest of their relationship didn't reek of the kind of control you see in abuse cases. Meeting, her trooning out alongside him, distancing her from friends and family, their instagram is almost exclusively photos of themselves vs. with friends, their reliance on one another and their ideology.

Most troons want to bury their past. She ever so often posts a picture of herself when she was still female. All her clothing as a man is baggy and overly large, ratty, or tacky just look at the wedding photo and the choice of 'tux'. As she progressed on testosterone her smiles became more and more fake, forced, quirky troon smirk, etc. She stopped being a girl who was dressing like a tomboy and posted frequent selfies to being a troon whose just slowly becoming more of a disaster.

Nothing about them makes them come across as 'this is us just being quirky!' and nothing about him makes me think he'd even ask if she was ok with it.
