You might be abit more optimistic about pokemon than I am but I will say this, you do have good taste.

I am optimistic, not blind, at least I hope so.

Like I said earlier in the thread, I have my own goals and aspirations in making a pokemon-esque game.

Anyway, looking at the list of complaints - I have to tilt my head a bit. How good is Yuzu as an emulator? Every time I tried running it (even on a brand new laptop that I got optimized for gaming) it didn't work too good.

I think I'm starting to realize why it is they're "rebooting" the anime series by not entirely making Ash go directly to Galar (looks like he's still going, but it's not a big focus). On top of them being sick and tired of hearing older fans bitch about "the status quo" while still wanting that nostalgia cake, I don't think they were fully confident in this generation that either they told OLM to do something different, or this was Kunihiko's/other director's decision after looking through the notes. Not to mention, Gou isn't based off anyone from the game, he looks more like he came from Let's Go. I dunno, something's fishy in that department.

But man, it seems like since the latter half of this year, TPC has been dropping the ball in terms of Pokémon. The games are a gigantic clusterfuck and nothing's going to top that, but there still hasn't been word of MSBE being released out here. The TCG related to it is coming out next Friday, but there hasn't been anything about the film. Not a trailer, or announcement, nothing. It's kinda bizarre.

I heard its good, though that's because the switch is around the wii u in terms of power and basically just one of nvidia shield's stuff modified for nintendo
Can't exactly test it since my pc could probably be out bench marked by a toaster but considering how quickly they got odyssey to run it should do fine for gen 8
I think they are still working on getting SS running abit better but I heard its close
Though for most computers it might take abit to work, an emulator is always evolving, its a constant WIP
So if the shit like campaign length is getting you worried and you aren't a sucker like me who bought a console near launch only to luck out with having the easiest hardware exploit in gaming history, Yuzu should do fine.
addendum: okay got a gitch for you that might be unskippable though, probably will still take a week to solve

I got the feeling that the exp curve in Sun and Moon was designed to give people the option of training a large variety of pokemon to discourage people from sticking with the same team of 6 the entire game. The reality was it led to a too-easy baby game. I'm disappointed that this is shaping up to be the same way.

This hype cycle must be one big meme if too much water girl is back

once again the Pokemon tag has a massive difference between everything else, seems legit guys 100%

Yeah that's why I think there's something going on, maybe the anime is being changed so they can do content independent of the games, causing the games not to be put on a time scale (:optimistic: I know but why else change the format?) my theory is that Nintendo didn't really communicate their marketing strategy for the switch, causing game freak to pander to the GO crowd, the switch is a success to game freak's surprise as mentioned in articles by now and as a result.... this was rushed out in 3 years.

Ohmori was too focused on making his waifu have a game then to care about such petty things like "game design" and "challenge" or "fun" when he made sun and moon

Rate me super optimistic but i'm hoping for a day one patch to fix some of the issues like giving an option to turn the exp share off and maybe increasing the level of trainer pokemon by 5 for a harder challenge.

The fact that GF is still silent makes me think they are either scrambling to fix some of the issues or they are waiting for it to blow over.

There's way too many issues to do it within 3 days unless they crunch, I think they are bracing for impact. They are gonna try their damnest to make sure this shit doesn't happen with gen 9. probably a mix of getting outside help and doing the bare minimum for fan feedback

What do you expect? People have been pulling the game comparison card ever since this debacle started, even going so far to compare PKM to DQ11, a port from a game that had a much longer dev cycle and was originally meant for a higher system (and yes, I'm aware that DQ11 was supposed to come to Switch too initially, but they had that delayed as well

I'm going to humor the thought for a bit anyways just so that I have something to chew on while reception still comes out. While Pokemon has been removing content people generally liked, Three Houses has added the following changes to the franchises that fans have been asking for:

-A much more natural and open-ended Support System with nerfed in-game utility so that it doesn't overwhelm the gameplay with massive advantages.
-Attempts and experiments made for more engaging boss fights, introducing new mechanics and types of enemies that, if they don't succeed, at least set up the framework from something better in future installments.
-Units now have unique and distinguishable models at all times. While reclasses have generic bodies for all units, stuff like a character's core colors and body type is actually taken into consideration a bit when changing classes.
-Reclassing is much more complicated and requires more skill to navigate and take advantage of, meaning the game removes the grinding-for-skills-fest previous entries were.
-More objectives to accomplish during battle that break up the monotony of "Just kill all the enemies and maybe stand someone right there."
-A more balanced weapon system that gives the player what they want without granting tons of immediate advantage.

On paper, Intelligent Systems streamlined the Fire Emblem experience to remove a lot of the micro-managing. In practice? Man Fire Emblem vets love how complicated and deep the new mechanics in Three Houses are, and are especially impressed these things exist since the game initially seemed to be pandering to casual audiences.

The difference here is that there's options. Players can choose how they approach the game and it rewards all types of players in different ways for their own style of play. What's more is that they didn't have to force mechanics or limitations on anything that didn't already feel organic to the experience to accomplish this.

The downplaying of Three Houses in comparison to what Game Freak is giving us with Sword and Shield is immense. I don't think the games are DOA nor will they be the titanic failures that a lot of people are assuming they're going to be, but if we did try to make comparisons to other first-party Nintendo content (Fire Emblem being the most appropriate since it is Nintendo's "other" RPG franchise), it makes it clear there's a lack of content and polish.

And what itches the fuck out of me is that we know Game Freak has a tendency to shit the bed in programming and stuff. Every generation has some stupid ass malfunction that somehow got into the release of the game. (Bricking your save data in X/Y, anybody?) I understand not wanting people to be overly harsh, but if there was a Nintendo franchise not named "Star Fox" that needed the criticism right now, Pokemon is pretty damn sure my vote for the top of that potential list.

There's a first time for everything and all that, but GF has never patched their games in such a way. The only time they do is for actual game-breaking bugs, like the Lumiose save glitch in X/Y. If they were any other company they probably would, but considering the blitzing speed in how they shove out these games, they're no doubt already working on the next ones and don't have time to even bother going back to "fix" anything in SWSH unless there's another serious glitch involved.

Wait, whad'ya mean rebooting the anime?

Lmao, if they restart after Ash won his first actual league, I'm gonna die laughing.

Changes and game details

I've mostly taken a "wait and see" approach with these games so far, but wow some of this sounds pretty bad. Short run time, no Elite 4, and little post game all sucks ass. Hidden Power, Pursuit, and Return are pretty big losses for the competitive crowd as well. These moves were good, but weren't completely overpowered.

To play devil's advocate, Frustration after raising a Pokemon for about 5 levels becomes worthless. I'm not to choked up about most of the other moves either. I mean, is anyone really going to miss such powerful, unforgettable moves as Egg Bomb, Mud Sport, Captivate, and the best move in the history of the series, Syncronoise (does anyone even this move was a thing)? Do you know if people are up and arms about Eevee's exclusive moves from Let's Go getting removed? If so, some of these people are giant hypocrites because I remember people doing nothing but bitching and whining about these overpowered moves and their dumb names.

Even though I'm not on the hate train, I do think it would be a good idea for Papa Nintendo to come in and say "lemme give you a hand." IIRC I think Nintendo is kinda hands off on Gamefreak for reasons but it might be time to give some pressure and open up development. I think Pokemon would benefit from the Call of duty model where you have multiple companies working in a staggered cycle (not suggesting yearly, but maybe 2 teams each getting a 4 year development cycle).

Oh, what a surprise.

Oh my God, for reals? I actually had to get up to walk around for a few minutes to collect my thoughts, this baffled me so much. This is sheer laziness. I take it 3D modeling is still "new territory" for the sprite-makers, but how did no one look at this and go "That looks like shit"? This is what fucking amateurs do, and it's usually the first mistake that gets corrected real fast once you get the hang of 3D modeling. Taking away vertices will change the polygon, but adding to what's already absolute doesn't immediately conform the polygons into another shape, and is a waste of data. This is just to fool not just the system but also the higher-ups/newbies who don't know what they're looking for but will let it pass as long as it looks "smooth" when rendered in HD.

Is this a carryover of the 3DS model or from Let's Go?

It's an inconsistent mix of both.

I collected every pokemon up to what was in X/Y, I skipped sun and moon and ultra sun and moon because it looked like ass, but Sword and Shield is like series killing bad.

At this point they're going to have to start back in Kanto again anyways, because a full reboot is needed.

The fucking Atelier series now has higher production values than Pokemon.

I'm out the loop cause I'm too lazy to retrieve my password on Twitter, what happened with Serebii that we got a ISWV hashtag going?
