Some people have assumed that she personally flipped the image (and erased the signature), but I don't think that is true. Someone had already done that by 2013 and uploaded it to a wallpaper site where it propagated all over the internet. If you do a Google image search of the flipped version, you'll find results from from over 100 links, from wallpapercave, wallpapersafari, wallpaperaccess, wallpaper-gallery, wallpapers-house, wallpaperstalk, etc. She or her niece probably found that version while searching for monsters or whatever.

I can buy the idea that the mom was hoodwinked, but there's no way that she would have been given her education, expertise and the fact that she is something of an artist herself. You'd have to have to be completely computer illiterate, which she clearly is not.
