I disagree, if only because the volume of Harry Potter comparisons shows that a disturbing number of millennial women continue to obsess over a mediocre children's book series, as opposed to one uncharismatic grandmother trying to be hip to the kids.
I mean... let's look at the bright side. These could all be 50 shades of grey references...

It's whoever Hillary decide to support

You know things really went to Hell in a handbasket when people like Scarborough are going, "God I hope no one was watching." I especially love that whole "I want Trump taken out of office" quote. The MSM isn't even pretending to be unbiased anymore, they're finally dropping the masks and just flat-out saying it.

Why would Joe say "Why are you fighting each other you should be saying orange man bad!"? That's just fucking idiotic, the MSM has been saying ORANGE MAN BAD for 4 years.

People just want to hear a plan that's better than Trumps thats good for the country, thats it. Or are they just basically admitting they have sweet fuck all? Like trans abortions? That's your winning move? healthcare for illegals? These are supposed to be your big policy cards? You all sound like fucking rainbow haired tranny lunatics. I'm surprised the Electric company didn't cut power to the studio out of sheer embarassment.

The dems are betting big on the long odds of beating Get Woke Go Broke syndrome. It's a real hail mary play, and they've gotta know it's not likely to work.

Hell, maybe they're just trying to get the most insane part of their base riled up to just keep acting like idiots for the rest of Trump's time in office, and hopefully he'll deal with them and they won't have to get rid of them themselves. Actually... that's not the worst plan, from the POV of Pelosi...

I know no one said anything important anyway, but it's embarrassing how long it took me to find translations of what these assholes said in Spanish the first night. I think MSNBC might've taken their coverage of the debates down and a lot of the transcripts just say "(Speaking in Spanish)" or something like that without translating what was actually said. This was stupid. Go back to pandering to black people. At least you were speaking English then.

Speaking of pandering to black people, funfact, remember how Cory Booker blamed the lack of affordable healthcare for the low life expectancy of poor black people in his state? Well, in New Jersey, if you're poor enough, you get Medicaid. You get pretty much everything you need so you don't either drop dead on the streets or attack people in the name of schizophrenia. The moron is so disconnected from the poor, he didn't know that. It's people who make a few dollars too much to qualify for medicaid that struggle with getting healthcare.

Spoiler for people who want to know what they were saying in Spanish and a refresher on the context. Spanish parts are bolded.

GUTHRIE: Congressman O’Rourke, what we’ve just been discussing and talking about is how much fundamental change to the economy is desirable and how much is actually doable. In that vein, some Democrats want a marginal individual tax rate of 70 percent on the very highest earners, those making more than $10 million a year. Would you support that? And if not, what would your top individual rate be?

BETA O'ROURKE: This economy has got to work for everyone. And right now, we know that it isn’t. And it’s going to take all of us coming together to make sure that it does.

We need to include everyone in this economy but if we want to do this we need to include everyone in this democracy. Every vote, every voter needs representation and every voice needs to listen.

Right now, we have a system that favors those who can pay for access and outcomes. That’s how you explain an economy that is rigged to corporations and to the very wealthiest. A $2 trillion tax cut that favored corporations while they were sitting on record piles of cash and the very wealthiest in this country at a time of historic wealth inequality.

A new democracy that is revived because we’ve returned power to the people, no PACs, no gerrymandering, automatic and same-day voter registration to bring in more voters, and a new Voting Rights Act to get rid of the barriers that are in place now…

GUTHRIE: Congressman O’Rourke…

O’ROURKE: That’s how we each have a voice in our democracy and make this economy work for everybody.

GUTHRIE: Congressman, that’s time, sir.

I’ll give you 10 seconds to answer if you want to answer the direct question. Would you support a 70 percent individual marginal tax rate? Yes, no, or pass?

O’ROURKE: I would support a tax rate and a tax code that is fair to everyone. Tax capital at the same right…

GUTHRIE: Seventy percent?

O’ROURKE: … that you — you tax ordinary income. Take that corporate tax rate up to 28 percent. You would generate the revenues…

GUTHRIE: OK, that’s time.

O’ROURKE: … you need to pay for the programs we’re talking about.

GUTHRIE: That’s time. Thank you.

[Snip. On to Booker]

DIAZ-BALART: Senator Booker, what would you do on day one? And this is a situation that the next president will inherit.

BOOKER: Yes. The situation now is unacceptable. The president has attacked and demonized immigrants. It's unacceptable I'm going to change this. On day one, I will make sure that, number one, we end the ICE policies and the Customs and Border Policies that are violating the human rights. When people come to this country, they do not leave their human rights at the border.

Number two…I will make sure that we reinstate DACA, that we reinstate pathways to citizenship for DACA recipients, and to make sure that people that are here on temporary protective status can stay and remain here.

[Fastforward to the next time Bob speaks taco.]

DIAZ-BALART: If I could, I’m sorry. Congressman O'Rourke, what would you do day one if you were president about the reality we are living in? What would you do, Congressman, day one at the White House?

O’ROURKE: We are going to treat every person with the respect and dignity they deserve as humans. We would not turn back Valeria and her father, Oscar. We would accept them into this country and follow our own asylum laws. We would not build walls. We would not put kids in cages. In fact, we would spare no expense to reunite the families that have been separated already…

O’ROURKE: … and we would not criminally prosecute any family who is fleeing violence and persecution…

[snip]

HOLT: Secretary Castro, you have 45 seconds, sir.

CASTRO: My name is Julian Castro and I am running for president of the United States.

The very fact that I can say that tonight shows the progress that we have made in this country. Like many of you, I know the promise of America. My grandmother came here when she was 7 years old as an immigrant from Mexico, and just two generations later, one of her grandsons is serving in the United States Congress and the other one is running for president of the United States.

At least the mod translated what he said to O'Rourke for us. I still can't find a translation for what the mod said to Booker right before his closing statement, but I'm assuming it was just telling him it was his turn to speak. Lol at O'Rourke for answering the question in neither language,

Left-wing media is laughing at them for this.

I haven't laughed as hard at four hours of content in a long fucking time. That being said I went ahead and voted for Swalwell up top because he had no votes, which made me sad. I unironically love Eric because he's a dull-normal simpleton and a complete empty suit who can do nothing but awkwardly recite painfully rehearsed sound bites and miss every single beat or mistime his applause lines. He's the quintessential DC drone and the perfect representation of this whole clown alley pie fight.

People aren't going to turn out to vote for any of these goofs. They might not want to vote for Trump, but they won't care passionately about these guys. They'll just stay home.. I'm going to be keeping a close eye on the volunteerism levels of these campaigns, I think that'll be a good early indicator of enthusiasm levels. Much moreso than money raised and spent.

As far as the volunteer stuff goes, Harris and Warren and Bernie are the people who have foot soldiers and ground games and devotees, or will be given them.

I go with the theory that all the candidates are A/B testing and focus grouping and they will dump all their cash and data and donor information to the nominee this time, so that will bail the nominee out on not having fanatical support, to a certain degree.

Normally I'm one to completely ignore anonymous "inside source" stories, but given the kind of beating that Biden took in that debate, and given that it's coming from a New York Magazine writer, I'm willing to believe that his staff is probably having a panic right now, and Biden's being Biden and completely ignoring his prep team while he parades around on stage thinking that it's still 1904. Stranger still was that Biden's campaign manager responded to the assertion not even 10 minutes later.

Also isn't it deeply curious just how quiet Obama's been while his 'best friend' takes a beating? I thought the lack of Obama's endorsement was odd enough, but I really expected to hear him chime in about Biden's performance on the debates and all we got was more radio silence.

I'm taking this with a grain of salt. Even if it was true, what advice did his staff give him that he didn't listen to? He defended himself against Harris the best he could, but he fucked up by following the debate's rules and refused to go over time so he'd stop mid-sentence.

Even MSNBC admits that normal Democrats' main issue with him is that he's on the same crazy bullshit everyone else seems to be on. Was everyone on stage not listening to their staff or was everyone's staff oh so in tune with what the average democrat wants that they were telling their bosses they need to get rid of private insurance and raise taxes on the middle class to pay for rich adults' student debts? Did they want him to speak more or less Spanish? If his staff's anything like Harris's, maybe it's a good thing he doesn't listen to them.

Just because Biden spoke longer, does not mean that he did better.

"PASS. THE. TORCH. JOE."

The comment section for Tim Ryan has been absolutely brutal :story:
Also of note this is one of the few videos on MSNBC that hasn't been downvoted to hell

The damage control is real, his campaign sent this out to their email list:

The comment section is about 50 percent, "Wait, that was a sparring bout? Tulsi Gabbard put him in the body bag!" and "Of course they cut her mic when she started speaking the truth about Saudi Arabia's involvement in 9/11 and their role in getting us to go to war in the middle east and north africa."

Tulsi Gabbard is there to put a sensible face on the democrat party and because for whatever reason they have "anti-war" bonafides and want to keep holding on to them, if only as a cudgel to harm "war party" Republicans with. She's a no-hoper cultist loon, but its nice to have a military veteran and current member of the military speaking some semblance of sanity on military policy.

Well, there's the possibility that Barry, deep down inside, HATES Biden running for office on HIS nostalgia and fears that HIS legacy will be further tarnished if the history books don't just read "Oh, and he immediately had everything he accomplished undone by DRumf in 2 years" but also "and his Veep then took over and couldn't put it back together despite having even higher approval"

Obama is goofing around with his buddies, getting high all the time, that's the rumor anyhow. Maybe he's not "active" in politics because he just doesn't really give a fuck anymore and wants to smoke it out and play video games? He didn't really seem to care about politics and legislation and downballot stuff and the national health of the democrat party, and he turned the DNC into a worse than bankrupt shambles. Maybe, just maybe, he's lazy and doesn't give a fuck and wants to smoke some pot? Can't say I blame him.
