Considering Chris probably can't explain the problem other than "I keep puttin coolant in it and it's still overheetun!" The time it would take most backyard mechanics to deal with it and the inevitable other issues that always arise would likely conflict with his attending Bronycon in only nine days.
It's a shit ton easier to figure in person with things like this as I've said before. Pros couldn't do much better than you or I with what info Chris gave us.

Having been that guy who gets calls with this level or less of info and then told "fix it" I can also say, I know professionals deal with this daily and the first thing they get when someone calls and says my car does X... bring it here let me see it. Because you can trouble shoot so much better.

From what little Chris gave us, I think we can all agree it's a coolant system issue, now lets say it's the hoses, that's a shade tree wrench guy like myself, maybe 2-3 hours on that. Plus parts and the beer you are paying me (half up front cause I don't do this shit sober) a HG with proper tools and all, a day for you or I if handy. Maybe an after noon or less if you know these cars in and out. A pro about the same time honestly. Me, I'll work a day for a buddy for a case, Tony the shop owner charges, like 70 an hour. So gets pricy quick.

One thing that would be nice if in deed some how Chris got a hook up, he's the kind of cow, who'd drop the car off and go play vidya and be out of the way. Nothing makes things worse than when someone "helps" and slows the whole ordeal down.

I've literally thrown a full sized car battery across my garage when Mrs Bass was telling me I was doing it wrong and couldn't grasp there may be an electrical problem causing the issues she had. No matter how many BJs and beer she got me. New rule go watch netflix when I'm fixing your shit.

Back to our problem, Chris is Chris and he has odd and debatable levels of friends, chums and handlers, but he really doesn't have any dang dirty brute males in his life who'd be happy/willing/able to check things out for him that I know of.

thermostat housing O-ring sounds to be common on those, Bronycon here we come!

If it's stuck closed, then yes it'll never open and the motor will just cook. If stuck open, that's another ball game and clearly not the problem. Chris didn't mention any CEL (check engine light) nor did it show one, Tstat's dying normally throw a code on OBD2 cars.

I don't know on his gen if the t stat is like the older duratecs and mounted on on the rad cap or not. If it is, if you can open a jar you can fix that problem.

I just did a quick google for common issues on the Focus and it said the o-ring on the housing is known to fail and leak.

You edited in that picture, and that yea could cause what Chris is dealing with and oh boy that's not a cap mount. I assume it's mounted on the block somewhere. That won't be a cake replacement if indeed the problem.

Granted Chris has his car at a professionals and not paying me so I won't bother to google how to fix it for him, but it looks like the whole thing is one unit fucking Ford Mazda... Granted can probably do just the O ring but really if his shop is smart they will suggest replacing it all in one swing while it's apart. The car is almost a decade old and over 100k t-stats fail. It's off the car do it before it's back again.

Since I just wanted to be nosy/devils advocate, in "good shape" KBB says the car is worth 1700-2100. Chris has neglected it but for avg miles they were close of 95k Chris at 108k.

I bet it's more than just a leak. Bad thermostats, bad water pumps, issues with the cooling fan (or relays that turn it on), to even a bad serpentine belt, and whatnot can cause the engine to overheat even if there is coolant. Furthermore, that engine in his car has aluminum parts easily damaged by overheating, and worse if the head gasket blows that adds some good money to the repair costs, depending on how hard it is to disassemble the engine.
It's a grand caravan.

The video he posted today he shows the ODO, it's over 100k miles 108 and change, it will/does need the T belt. If you've ever seen a motor throw a t belt (and it's at a risk for it higher due to neglect) well pistons and valves have a make out session. Protip, you don't want this.
If it's a 3.3 or 3.8 engine (if it's a grand Caravan it's likely to have one of those), it's a timing chain. While you at least have some failure signs beforehand when the belt's going to fail, replacing it is a royal pain in the ass. I found a YouTube video on it and you have to remove a lot of parts to get to it, which will definitely rack up a labor charge at a garage for sure.

Chris wants more money and you damn well know his autistic followers are gonna provide. This isn't a new spiel.

Over heating alum gets scary quickly if you can catch it quickly nothing happens. Warping, you need new parts. Period. Honestly if the motor is cooked Chris is better off with another car that repairs, even though the 2l he has is a very common and over all stout motor could yard one drop in, but costs since he's not doing himself.

The issue Chris is having is in his Focus and the tapping video is in the retired and dead Focus.

Dodge using mistu guts was never a kind time to owners, mechanics made good money off those mistakes...but it was a nightmare to do, mini vans are often awful to do motor work on anyway.

If I were a betting man, I'd say that Chris is going to risk taking the car to BronyCon if it requires repairs that will be too costly or time consuming. If the car craps out on the way to BronyCon, we are in for an epic, weapons grade meltdown.

At this point it doesn't even surprise me anymore. The we-ens giveth, the we-ens taketh away.

Like all bad sitcoms, whatever drama occurs in Chris's life, it's all back to normal by the next episode.

Is Bronycon still Baltimore? Because holy shit, Chris broken down in Baltimore is going be a hell of a trip.

Despite just posting that nothing ever changes for Chris, THAT could be a real bad situation.

He's been lucky that most of his meltdowns have occurred in relatively safe spaces, TooManyGames, PVCC, Fasion square mall, but if he gets distressed and emotional while Sonchu is smoking on the shoulder of some interstate highway, and a state trooper pulls up..

I could definitely see Chris getting tazed right before being commited on a 5150.

Is driving to Bronycon really Chris' only option? He had a ride and lodging before things fell through, right?

Maybe he could find somebody else to take him. @The Captain what do you think his chances are there?
