I think he didn't anticipate the car troubles to flare up in that way, if you see the old videos of him driving around town (in the original Son-Chu), there's a huge rattle that happens whenever he stops at a redlight, and he's none the wiser.
If memory serves me right that was a heat shield rattle and nothing to worry about, just rip the fucker off. Or ignore it and endure the rattle.

But in regards to Chris and neglect no doubt. If you have the video handy feel free to link it so I can use my amateur grease monkey skills to deduce.

So he dropped it off as an emergency case. He'll have to raise money to pay the bill later. I wonder if that means they're going to let him take the car without paying or hold onto it until he does.

Apparently shipping for his blanket to CA was $40. He's not happy about that.

I cannot imagine that a mechanic (or any business owner for that matter), is going to take one glance at Chris in all of his Downsy Disney Princess, Sailor Moon tiara'd, tattered Sal Army shrieking glory, and return that car in working order on nothing but a greasy handshake that Chris is Totes Good For It.

Whether or not Chris really is good for it isn't the point. I don't see this working out for him if that car is what he considers his only option to get to the Emerald City to see the Wizard, and he can't get his bump & hustle on hard enough to come up with the scratch.

But he will. In that one respect, he seems to be the Teflon Don when it comes to things like this. I'd like him to learn a lesson & grow so he can avoid this kind of thing down the road, but that isn't likely to happen. Someone will take care of this for him.

So instead, it's just fun to watch it unfold.

Edit: I really fucking hope that someone with an *actual* repair emergency (i.e. single dad w 3 kids can't get to either one of his 2 jobs tomorrow if his car is fucked up) winds up further back on the queue than he should be bc.. < Christian @ BronyCon 2018.

lol this is like the computer trouble thread. Suddenly everyone is a mechanic
I keep two British cars working, as a hobby.

Also, Chris doesn't really give us much to work with, and it's hard to fix or guess with out seeing it. So really most of us no matter or level of education and skill are just pissing in the wind, but that's the entire point of this forum is it not?

You know, when my car is starting to show signs of a serious problem, and an event I've been looking forward to for an entire year is coming up in two weeks, you know what I find is a pretty sound fiscal decision?

Get a lil bit of sushi.
LOL he probably got gas station sushi, hardly the pinnacle of the Japanese culinary experience.

I believe it's these two, keep in mind he's since gone on to get a newer 2010 Ford Focus:

Thanks, that's not what I remember, that's not a heat shield at all. Valve tap would be my guess. Either way that car is dead and gone, the question now is how will the current do?

Does anyone know it's milage?

It was at least 260,000 miles at the time of recording, and an oil change was overdue by a year.

That car was a 1994 Ford Focus station wagon btw.

Chris current car assuming the ODO is correct is 108k it' due for a belt/chain. You can get one for not a lot the whole kit 200ish https://www.autozone.com/internal-engine/timing-set/ford/focus/2010 probably better prices for his mechanic.

If indeed it's HG you need to take it off and it would be stupid to not do it while it's apart. If it's just hoses, they may tell him while it's in time to do this.

Alum is prone to warping, if so the engine is shot period. While we don't know and all are just making guesses, I'll say this is gonna be expensive, at least. If not Chris may be best/better off replacing car.

Oh it was definitely crap grocery store sushi. The kind with undercooked rice and lox. It's just funny because he's barely scrapping by, already knows his car has an issue and decides "you know? Nows a pretty good time to treat myself to something I've never tried before.."

Meanwhile Barb is sucking down government supplied liquid food.

Did he get a warning on the dashboard about the cooling system and just dump coolant in there? It's not like oil where you can get away with doing that for a bit if you run dry. He could take it to somewhere to get the error codes read to get a decent idea of what a repair might run him. Kinda what he shoulda done before doing what he did to "fix" it but oh well.

I’m not much of a mechanic, but the thing he just did with the coolant doesn’t seem like a good idea.

You guys actually don’t know what you’re talking about

Or he can put it up on eBay (with certificate attached) and get 10x the money.

Interestingly, the sushi photo shows a Dodge steering wheel, I think he was using Barb's car, whatever that is.

@The American Hedgehog , do we know what Barb's car is?

You know, with all the computer goddess Chris has been talking to lately, maybe he should've communed with the one that lives in his car.

Coolant problems are the worst. Has happened to 3 of the 5 cars I've owned. Expensive shit.
