That's... so fucking retarded that you could turn it into a special education primary school. The Waid vs D&C debarkle doesn't even need to be examined in it's political context, it's perfectly clear about how ethically fucked up it is all by itself. Tl;Dr: An industry bigwig used and abused his popularity and financial clout to shut down a small publisher because he doesn't like one of their creators. It's that simple. Taking Waid's side, regardless of whether or not you disagree with his beliefs, basically says you are fine with a single company devouring an entire industry and killing off all forms of creatively and experimentation. You are happy to read the same fucking story ten times over each month, only with the names and the pictures changed slightly. It's the end of the very thing you claim to love the most. I could absolutely understand if the whole hoohah was being kept off of the forum simply because of the high drama shitting up the place, but backing up Waid when he tries to kill small publishers for shits and giggles? Fuck's sake.

CBLDF stands for Comic Book Legal DEFENSE Fund. He's really looking for money to attack, even if it's a counter attack. It often involves people literally being prosecuted for comic books, like Michael Diana for Boiled Angel.

And, while I hope they haven't gone the route of the SJWs, the CBLDF is a fairly left-leaning entity itself. I received its newsletter for quite some time and whoever wrote it loved to throw around invective and loaded words such as "censorship". In my favorite instance, the Apple iBook store refused to carry some comics because they didn't like the content, and the CBLDF claimed the artists were being censored. No ... this had nothing to do with censorship; one private entity simply chose not to sell a product made by a different private entity.

So, I dunno. Somehow I get the feeling that the CBLDF might side with the Waid contingent over the D&C guys.

I hold out hope that there is some ideological consistency left in civic institutions. The ACLU is generally hated by the right wing, up until they defend them. The ACLU has gone as far as to defend actual Nazis (as opposed to literally Nazis). So these organizations don't always bend their morals to fit an agenda. Meyer clearly has an agenda though by calling them out. It's not like it would be hard for him to find a Lawyer on his own. Hell at this point they are trying to find him.
 
I'm legit curious as to how much of Mark Waid's current SJW spergery is a defensive overreaction. After all, this is the guy who wrote Empire, a (quite enjoyable) comic where one of the most sympathetic characters is plying a teenage girl with drugs and banging her- and, plot twist, it turns out she was the one using him the whole time. I can only imagine how well that would go over with Team Danger Hair.
 
I hope that Mark Waid snaps and challenges Meyer to a boxing match. THE STRONG PROTECTS THEIR GROIN

The ACLU isn't that biased in terms of what kinds of clients they'll defend, so much as what kind of cases they'll get involved with. They will take nearly any First Amendment case that raises substantial constitutional issues, resources being available. They will rarely, if ever, take a Second Amendment case, though.
 
Zack would be better off trying to find a publisher in order to get his book out as quickly as possible than getting into a costly and protracted legal battle that, let's face it, he is not likely to win. Getting Jawbreakers into the hands of his audience would be the real victory here.

And not for nothing, but he could stop being such a whiner, too. Why is it so many professional "trolls" go around looking for a fight, then start crying when they get one? Enjoy the free publicity, get your product out, hopefully establish a comic buying following so you can do it again. Stay focused.

He didn't get a fight, he got a mob of idiots trying to destroy his livelihood. The proper response to some coughing guy not liking your comics is to tell him to go fuck himself and maybe make fun of his videos.

It isn't to try to destroy his livelihood and commit illegal acts against him.

Nothing this guy did was illegal in any way, but what was done against him was seriously illegal. It may not be worth pursuing, but it was not only illegal but morally reprehensible behavior. He has a right to be pissed, and if he wants to sue, I'm going to have some popcorn ready. Several months or years worth, because he's not the guy who broke the law here.
