To be fair, high school students think the same way. We had an English teacher in our school who was enormously disliked by the students. One day, she let it slip that she had bad reactions to citrus-scented perfumes.

You can guess what every girl in the class brought the next day. The smell of oranges lingered in that building for nearly a week.
 
Scientific note. You can have a "pickle"of almost any edible flora/fauna. All a pickle is, is a foodstuff preserved in a acidic or salt brine solution high enough in concentration to prevent bacterial growth.

I've eaten absolutely lovely picked daikon cubes, Kimchi, picked dates, squash blossoms in sweet vinegar pickle (a personal favorite), assorted peppers, olives of all kinds and shapes, and that cornerstone of Southern cooking: Salt pork.

Given Chris's slang term for a penis, and the shape of the most popular picked vegetable in America, the cucumber. I think the connection is a little obvious.

You really overestimate Chris if you think he knows that pickles are cucumbers.

I'll let him slide on not knowing that "pickles" are fruit.

Sonichu hates pickles only because he is allergic to them, ergo, he's straight.

Chris hates pickles because they make him involuntarily think of penises, ergo, he's ______.

Nah, Chris wouldn't have Rosechu deviate from being loyal to Sonichu. She's directly a copy of Amy Rose who is virtually the same towards Sonic (whose romantic loyalty in return is varied at best) so Chris doesn't dare deviate from something that embedded into his concept of the character. That's why he created all the other Rosechus.

Could the "prime" also simply be a way to denote the character Sonichu from the rest of his species?

Because eating a carrot or a zucchini is dangerously close to eating healthy.
Pickle slices show up on his daily burger all the time, so those are "part of his world", unlike a zucchini, which I doubt he would be able to pick out of a police lineup.
