Multiple people have been injured in an active shooter situation at a high school in south Florida, police confirmed.

The Broward Sheriff's Office is responding to the shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

The Coral Springs Police Department is asking students and teachers to remain barricaded inside until police reach you.

According to WSVN, at least three people were seen surrounded by first responders and one person was seen being wheeled into an ambulance. There are reports of up to 20 injuries.

There sure is a lot of emotion in this thread. For real though, the media should stop having orgies over every sick fuck who decides to shoot up a school. I predict another one of these things (10+ people dead) to happen by, oh lets say June at this rate. Its been proven time and time that the more these things get reported on, the more people go on these massacres.

I was at the gym yesterday and on the TVs they had video of the guy in his backyard. On national fucking news. Like gg boys this shit is retarded. When you treat every one of these fuckhead losers like a supervillain of course this shit is gunna happen more. Fear is a form of respect. Most of the people who do this shit are scum-of-the-earth types, who are sick of being losers and actually want respect. This dork got expelled from highschool, got butthurt, and went back in to kill people. You can't make this shit up.
 
Oh Jesus Christ. Raise your hands if you were stupid in high school? I don't care what you believe, these were KIDS. Dammit. KIDS. I don't care if they were bullies or not, we're not talking about KKK members, here. Whatever an "aphobe" is (I had to google it, but I still don't get it), a lot of bullies grow up and change.
(Of course, this person is probably just trying to look all "cool" and "edgy" with the, "I took a test and it turns out I don't have any empathy, LOL!")

Now then, on to the main topic:
We can't just throw up our hands and say, "oh, but criminals will get guns illegally anyways!" Well, yeah, of course. First, by that kind of logic, why should we have any laws? Of course criminals aren't going to obey the law -- but that doesn't mean we don't throw all the laws away, does it?
Second, at least we can make it harder for them to be able to obtain guns. That doesn't mean it will be impossible to do so, but it will make it less likely.
(As for the "mental illness", if it is a problem, then fucking do something about it. Trump, ironically, did away rules Obama put in place that would make it harder for those with mental illnesses to get guns.)
There is nothing wrong offering "thoughts and prayers". The problem is that that that's all a lot of these jagoffs offer.

I am not saying that this is the only solution -- there's far more to it. But I do believe our gun laws are far too lax. I don't think it's too much to say, "hey, maybe this is something we should look into." Not the ONLY thing, but part of it.

Gun control cannot logistically work in the United States. Countries like Japan and England have successful gun control because they never had a gun culture or large amounts of civilian weapons ownership in the first place. There are over 400+ million guns in the United States and most government agencies consider even that number to probably be low. How on earth would you possibly enforce gun confiscation?

I also find it deeply amusing that the same people who claim it's impossible to round up thirty million illegals want to somehow confiscate 400+ million guns a large amount of which are owned by criminals and paranoid rednecks.

Again, that's an enforcement issue. Not a "we need more laws" issue. A DV conviction would have put him on the no guns list. Felony conviction for threats and animal abuse would have landed him on the list as well. But the cops and the courts let him slide.

Look, they already do the checks when you buy through an FFL. The problem is that this guy (and many others) never get flagged because are never convicted of anything that would bar them. There are no records. There are no flags. That isn't an inconvenience issue, that's a "we have no reason to deny this guy" issue. It makes the whole background check system ineffective and just an annoyance for gun owners rather than effective policy.

So, what law can solve this? I want details, not the typical "there should be a law" facebook platitudes that mean jack shit. Who reports being a scary weirdo to the FBI? What standards of evidence must be used to deny purchases? Does it have to be proven in court? Does it have to be signed off by a medical professional? A judge? Their mom? What is the appeals process? And, most important of all, can the FBI police and courts actually make it work so it actually does something?

Until you can come up with some kind of coherent policy expect me and every other gun owner to tell you to fuck off.
 
Not gonna lie, the whole gun debate seems really pointless to me based off how easy it is to get a gun illegally here.

The blackmarket doesn’t give a shit.
