After decades of relegating its LGBTQ characters to the sidelines, Marvel really turned things around with America and Iceman, its first two ongoing series featuring queer characters as their titular leads. Both books have been important additions to Marvel’s ever-expanding portfolio, but it seems as if the time has come for at least one of them to end. March’s comics solicitations are out this week and a number of titles including America are conspicuously missing, which heavily implies that the titles have been canceled. This afternoon, Marvel editor Heather Antos confirmed that Gwenpool, another title missing from the March solicits, was definitely canceled, further suggesting that any titles missing from the lineup as of today are done for.

How much do you wanna bet that even the few that did read the comics didn't actually buy them, but downloaded them illegal from somewhere so they wouldn't have to squander any of their parents' money on childrens' books?

Is there any reason to not hate SJWs? I can't think of a solitary one. They're the worst fad/social movement ever.

Surely you'd think they'd want to write books focusing more on whatever Marvel movie is popular, perhaps if they tried to make some stories more accessible to a casual fan they could get more readers? Eg. Guardians of the Galaxy, more Avengers, more Deadpool
A problem I have with comics is that I don't think they're very accessible to the average fan who enjoyed a movie and wanted to learn more about the characters in their favorite movie but they can't because they're 15 plots going on at once and where do you start? I guess I fit that criteria, maybe I'm just a basic bitch who brings shame upon the true fans

It could be worse, they could set up a whole other cinematic universe comic line completely different from the mainstream comics.

That Iceman comic was one of the most loathsome ongoing series ever put to print. Iceman was unintentionally portrayed as a vapid, self-absorbed letch who can't go three panels without insulting his struggling parents, referencing his online dating profile in the most 2006 OMG way possible, or grooming a minor for buggery.

Geez, any examples?

All of those books were incredibly mediocre. If they were at least interesting Marvel might have let them hang around even if they were losses.
America Chavez is the worst character though, she’s always been a shitty Tumblr Mary Sue self-insert and Marvel should kill her off for real like Uncle Ben so they don’t have inserted into any other comics ever again.

Gweenpool, Iceman and Jean Grey were never going to be able to support ongoing series. Very few characters are actually able to headline and be successful. Either the character sales on name alone like Wolverine or you’ve got have to a critically acclaimed series (original Hawkeye).

Captain Marvel isn’t so much canceled as it’s going to have plot in a miniseries before it’s relaunched ahead of the movie.

I know nothing about Generation X. It probably just wasn’t very good and there’s a glut of mediocre X-books already and with Disney getting the movie brand back they want a more cohesive brand.

But really I just wanted to say America Chavez is a terrible character and anyone who has ever written for her is a shitty writer and shouldn’t work professionally in writing ever again.

I want her as a villain. A racist anarchist who just fucking hates white people.

I've said it before in the "sperg about comics books" thead, but Iceman and America were just the worst books with the most embarrassing stereotypes put to paper. America was a Maria Suarez that constantly yaked about how "queer and Latina" she was and/or how much white straight men sucked. Speaking of sucking, Iceman was either whining about coming out or whining about not finding enough dicks to sit on.

Funny how DC can have a Green Lantern title featuring BOTH a Hispanic woman and a dark skinned Arab consistently sell over 35,000 copies a month, as a well as a JLA book with a black woman, Asian man, and a Hispanic gay guy that clears over 45,000 monthly. I'm sure it has NOTHING to do with the fact that DC focuses on writing GOOD characters instead just their race, gender, and sexuality, nor with the fact that DC uses writers and artists who have earned their dues in the industry and honed their craft instead of recruiting the first persons they found on Tumblr who scored more than a 7 on the Oppression Points chart.

Those can't be the reason - I'm sure that Marvel's books flopping are completely the fault of comics readers with good taste and limited budgets bigoted white straight men that refused to waste spend their money on crap diverse comics simply because the character and/or creators are Black trans Muslim amputee lesbian non-binary asexual demi Asian dwarves.

They should combine all those comics into a single series called Virtue Signalling. Then add some hilarious content to each episode, like that one webcomic where a furry is beaten up. Instant sales success.

“Most of these were subpar at best, yeah, but HOW DARE YOU MARVEL”
Full thread here, it’s funny how many of the people whining about the cancellations openly admit to never having actually bought the damn comics. Looks like this could generate some good salt.

And that's exactly the problem. If they want comic book publishers to put out more diverse and inclusive series, they need to be willing to put their money where their mouth is. For-profit corporations are soulless entities that don't give a shit about social justice (even if they say they do). They exist to make money for their owners/shareholders, that's it. If a comic series is cancelled because it didn't sell, then that's purely a business decision, not some kind of discrimination.

Now, if those series were actually doing well and they still got pulled? Then maybe they'd have some kind of case for loss of diversity or sexism or whatever. But from what data is out there, that's not the case. Saying you want a company to put out a certain kind of product, then not buying said product, only teaches the company to not listen to you and to instead focus on the people who do buy their shit, for better or worse. Vote with your wallets, people!

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. Didn't Marvel once have a team made up entirely of minorities, whose entire schtick was basically how stereotypical they are? Why not put these assholes together to form the next generation of that shitty comic? They can even ressurect that team's Big Bad.

So basically how the modern SJW sees the CIS GAYS?

I will not pretend to be interested in comics but didn't marvel create a bunch of genderspecial/muslim/tumblrite characters that nobody read because they prefered spiderman and captain america so they made spiderman and captain america genderspecial/muslim/tumblrite instead?

No, it was the reverse. They started off by making black/gay/spanish Spiderman known as Miles Morales debuting in August 2011. I believe they also had a comic for a gay cowboy character in an effort to bring back non-super comics but made him a flaming stereotype and that shit got shelved too.

Ah, Snowflame...

(This was actually on DC. The book was called the New Guardians and it had the one gay character killed off by a white supremacist vampire named Hemo-goblin...by giving him AIDS, of all things)

>company burns a shitload of money on trash titles in an attempt to attract a new audience that doesn't buy comics and just wants another platform for their politics
>company loses a lot of their old customers in the process, but hey they were problematic shitlords anyway and the new audience will totally buy just as many comics as they did
>they don't
>later, company does one thing that the new audience doesn't like
>new audience instantly turns on the company

Huh, never heard that one before.
