Bitcoin is a fringe use-case of extreme processing and electric power consumption.
By being a fringe case, it provides a huge incentive to drastically improve the efficiency and cost of both of these things into being more sustainable.

If you figure out how to make electricity cheaper or more reliable than another Chinaman who is involved in Bitcoin, you make more money than they do.

I doubt Frank is keeping John around for the cleft. He's keeping him around for his power and control fetish.
I wouldn't even put it past that nasty hobgoblin of an abusive asshole to fuck skanks on the side, while claiming he has to work extra hours or he's on a business trip or something.
