Oh yeah, all that about her sucks without a doubt, but I almost forgot the cherry on top of the shit sundae, the one thing that truly pushes me to become a card-carrying Mel a-log: she's not funny. The likes of Jer, Styx, the Jomhas, they may all be objectively worse pieces of shit, but they do provide a lot of entertainment value in their crashouts and so much of my fondest memories on here come from dunking on their antics. Mel, meanwhile, hasn't even unintentionally made me laugh; maybe there's some humor in the circumstances of her "marriage" to a gay furry, but whenever she opens her mouth it's nothing but straight torture. A minute of her speaking uninterrupted can feel like a fucking hour. Even the casino boys look like they're in pain whenever they have to sit through her voice.

Once this Jer shit finally runs its course, I'll be sad to see Jer go because dogging on this big Internet villain for the past month has been fun and good times, but I'll also be happy to never see (and especially hear) this bitch again because, well, she makes me angry. Yeah, no problem, I intended to make the data downloadable from the start but it quickly got a bit too big to upload to CF Pages which as a 25MB per-file limit. I'll figure out a decent way to put the data together and probably just upload an archive here to hand it off quick and easy.

Midnight's Edge is a joke these days. There's no reason to watch them when you could watch so many other people who can actually do math and/or understand how box office numbers work. Because seemingly they don't.

Also while I can understand a lot of people trying to do all the calculations over the past 13 years to declare that Disney hasn't made back the money they spent on Lucasfilm, I bet they probably have just based on licensing deals making up for all their flops. Besides, even simply having the exclusive rights to George Lucas' six Star Wars movies alone is so valuable they will never let it go even if every single thing they make themselves with Star Wars loses money.

Let me guess, speech diarization + speaker assignment based on sample clips? Then semantic embeddings + RAG?

That was something I thought about. The biggest issue was that it would take forever on my setup plus I imagine tuning speaker assignment would be a nightmare. There are so many videos with so many potential guests that it would be very easy for the AI to have a lot of false positives and negatives. Only played around with this stuff a bit though and it was a year ago so the tech may have improved a lot since then.

If you go with this approach, a good reranker is worth the compute. Finding things that are embarrassing is difficult because it's a more abstract concept and you don't know what you're looking for. Having multiple queries for different topics (financial struggles, alcoholism, sexual deviancy, etc.) and then letting the reranker determine whats actually embarrassing versus false positives will make it 10x better.

Claude code or (preferably) cowork integration is the easiest way to have it search. There are alternatives, but Claude will work better OOTB than 99% of alternatives. Very good at being able to do tons of searches with targeted follow-ups.
