so the complete Lauren chen lore to my knowledge goes as follows.

I didn't know lilies were toxic to cats either (but I never owned a cat) so I looked it up and it says cats will die 24-48 hours after poisoning, with symptoms starting after 0-12 hours.

So how long was he ignoring the cat that it died on the way to the vet? Probably he got drunk and only noticed something was wrong with the cat when he had sobered up.
