I’m Catholic and I voted for Donald Trump twice since I turned 18, I was a proud supporter after he got shot because I TRULY believed he was the moral option for our country. I wanted gas to be 2.10 a gallon and I wanted to stabilize the immigration system and deport people who genuinely have ruined the system which we pay taxes on.

But I draw the line at two things, pointless wars and mockery over my Religion. Donald Trump has managed to do both in the span of a month while attacking My Pontiff. It’s unconscionable for me to ever support him again after this. And it’s actually deranged to see people defend him when he has betrayed literally everything we voted him for

Let’s not forget he raised over $300 million for #StopTheSteal. It was nothing more than a grift…and people lost lives, ruined their chances of having a normal life if they caught a felony charge, etc. All for a grift. People should keep that in mind when people want to know if Trump will risk people’s lives for this failwar. Also, Trump will absolutely pull grifts on his way out the door so we will keep an eye out for those.

It's really to the point now where I see people on the right that say things so outside of what a logical view of reality I question if they have sentience. That used to only be a thing I thought when seeing some posts from the more extreme progressive leftists (like outright denying reality around transgender issues in insane ways, as a decent example of what I mean). I hope if this person is actually serious they get help. Especially if they are actually catholic.

It's even sadder people see that, and think. Yep. That's totally correct.

It's okay, it takes a lot to admit you're wrong and more to admit you got duped. Especially at such a young age. I supported him in 2016 mainly because "yeah he's kind of sleazy but at least he won't start a world war with China". I saw the fall in Chinese (specifically Han) nationalism as a good thing because it means the country can leave their war torn past in the dustbin. Bad stuff happens when the Han Chinese wants to rise up.
Donald Trump proved himself to be worse. He attacked Section 230, attacked science and spread endless lies about climate change. I'm a bit of a weirdo in that despite being right leaning, I do not want national parks and many beautiful scenes to perish in pursuit of endless capitalist growth. Climate change is threatening to take all of that away.
I don't like lying scumbag journalists but I know journalism is important. His attacks on section 230 was an attack on America's fundamental values. That being free speech and the free press.
At least he'll close the borders, right? There's a reason deportations and arrests are done quietly in countries that deport a lot of illegal workers like Australia and Barack "3 million must go home" Hussein Obongo's 8 years of America. It's a system that works. His administration went in with tactical gear, guns blazing, and caused a civil war. 2 summary executions and a lot more died in ICE custody. Most of these Hispanics are (or were...) devout Catholics. Dehumanising the illegals also seems directly contradictory to the core values of Christianity.

He's just all around a fucking disaster. I see a lot in the Catholic thread supporting regime change in Iran. I think that's incredibly short-sighted.
Here's a white pill:
- In 1979, there were a few hundred Christians living in Iran. Now it's estimated at over 750k. Those are state figures. The real number could be a lot higher. It could be in the millions or more.
- Most Iranians don't want religion to play a huge role on government. They're secular.

Regime change isn't needed in Iran. Give them a decade for the old grumpy fundie grandpas and grandmas to pass away, the theocracy will collapse and a secular government will form where religious persecution ends. I'm not even convinced that Iran would still be a religious country in a decade or two, it seems like most would simply be either spiritual or agnostic.

I genuinely believe this war really hurt the chances of that happening. Or at least on that timeline. I think it was pretty widely accepted that something like that would be the case. I suppose we will have a better idea by the end of this war what the real long term effects will be. But the short term from everything I've seen has strengthened the Iranian public's opinion of the state. Which makes sense when the people that are "saving" you are bombing your infrastructure. And if the Israeli government has it's way there won't be any kind of stable government in Iran for decades. It will be a war torn country with conflicts raging making it basically unlivable for civilians that just want to live their lives in peace. Likely leading to a lot of migration. Meanwhile militant groups will probably attack Israel sporadically, and do some form of piracy on the straight of Hormuz. Israel doesn't really care about that though.

These "catholics" don't care about religion at all. They choose their creed based on the racial demographics. That's why you see the phenomenon of "roman catholic -> orthodox christian pipeline". This people are finding out that many brown countries are very catholic and suddenly it's not a good religion anymore

If you say you're religious but race plays a big role in your relationship with religion, it tells me all about yourself
