It can't be definitively proven that Billy CAUSED apollos suicide, as apollo agreed to not mention Billy again as a ways of settling out of court but there was certainly reason behind Karl making those statements and believing what he did. His error was in the monetary transaction part- he got overzealous, believed he had really good sources of information, and made those statements without any disclaimers that there were "alleged".
Regardless, a 350k settlement is outrageous and a gross miscarriage of the judicial system. Karl will likely lose the Florida suit because defamation laws are much stricter there. His error is his hubris. He's the lesser of several assholes, but still less of an asshole than you.

A sensible judge would have seen that Billy was clearly leveraging lawfare against anyone making content about him, had caused distress to Apollo through the million dollar suit, and denied him any damages.
