I’d imagine the goal is to create a humanitarian disaster that results in regime change. Crude but probably will be effective with significant loss of life in Iran.

Obviously can't see shit in this, so waiting for confirmation of the downing from other sources, just posting for posterity in case it ends up being true. Morbid little fact, if it was indeed shot down the KC-135 does not come equipped with parachutes for the crew to bail out, so they would have gone down with it.

I feel like a major point of contention is people who are wholly political animals about this (Drumpf is finished, brown people are unstoppable/ MAGA! I am not against intervention if it benefits us. I am wary, but Trump’s philosophy for military shit is “kill their leaders, I have your back” to the military. My own view is was this something where Trump and the military looked at Iran and the Houthis creating doctrine for attacking ships and went “this is the best chance we will have to break them”. The US has a lot to gain. Iran basically has been preparing for Ragnorok/ Armageddon, Chris Hansen since the 80’s. They are the most retarded Muslim nation because unlike others they fund terror networks blatantly and openly.

Also, I am a self-interested asshole trying to get into petroleum and natural gas research positions. This war directly benefits me either way.

The idea that any country can just fight wars and defend positions with absolute perfection to the point that it does not lose any soldiers, has no equipment destroyed or facilities damaged is absolutely absurd.

The fact that we have people smugly crowing about a single transport aircraft shot down and a dozen soldiers dead is the USA somehow LOSING, says more about the absurd power level our enemies project onto us then it does about the reality of the situation.

You faggots in the same breath say Russia losing entire divisions worth of tanks and soldiers against the second poorest nation in Europe is inevitable victory. America is so good at war you view the loss of a single air refueling tanker as a victory for Iran on par with Scipio at Zama.

centcom released a statement about this saying it just went down but was not fired at. this was on thursday
TAMPA, Fla. -- U.S. Central Command is aware of the loss of a U.S. KC-135 refueling aircraft. The incident occurred in friendly airspace during Operation Epic Fury, and rescue efforts are ongoing. Two aircraft were involved in the incident. One of the aircraft went down in western Iraq, and the second landed safely.

This was not due to hostile fire or friendly fire.

More information will be made available as the situation develops. We ask for continued patience to gather additional details and provide clarity for the families of service members.

I have no idea how the Iran thing is going to play out. I've been mildly nervous since the operations started. But so far, I've seen no rational reason for anyone to take a hardcore doomer position on the matter. Iran backed by China has become an increasing threat to the US. So, if the regime is vulnerable and there's good strategy, I don't see why they shouldn't be curb-stomped into oblivion. I don't see any good counter argument other than some people would rather do nothing at all until the balance of world power shifts and then it's too late. You don't stay a super power by letting your enemies gain enough power to cripple and dethrone you.

The main belief I think, of any American that supports Iran in this conflict, is that by leaving Iran alive they'd create a thorn in Israel's side that would hopefully hinder Jewish influence over us. This is akin to letting a tumor grow in the hopes that it would neutralize or hinder another one you find threatening, an overall bad idea that would just introduce more poison to your body.
