Those lakes and rivers are drying up, the capital city is sinking into the ground because the aquifers under the Tehran are completely gone, most the dams are less and 20% capacity because they built too many to grift state funds, and a number of reservoirs have ruined their waters because they back up over salt flats, or have dried the land to becoming minerilized and creating dustbowls of salt.
