So were mines actually deployed or not?
Check my previous post for more info.

tl:dr the strait is currently not mined in a significant way, but Iran can mine it heavily if it ever wants to. It would still be a last resort. Kamikaze speedboats seem to be working well enough to disrupt shipping. Those things hit 3 vessels today who tried to make a run for it.

How the fuck is that going to convince people to still vote for him come midterms?
He seems aware of how short people's memories are and is convinced prices will come back down before they have any long-term impact.

He may be wrong, but that's his thought process.

In before Iran elects Trump as their supreme leader because they think it means he'll get bombed.
Jokes on them. Trump doesn’t drink.
This thing will probably be finished by the time he gets his paperwork through, much less gets through Basic or OCS, much less receives an MOS. Especially so for relevant roles in this war, i.e. pilots, aircraft maintenance, radar operators and fire control techs.
He’ll still make it into service in the sandbox before HMS Dragon leaves Portsmouth.
Yeah, a whole dozen. They've already lost double that in minelaying boats.
Even better, the Navy has finally found a mission and a use for those godawful LCS’s that they despise. Now they’re minesweepers. You gotta feel bad for those sailors stationed aboard the “Little Crappy Ships”.

In a minor shift into a vaguely related side topic. Apparently the B-21 Raiders are much further along than anybody realized.
As if China’s week could get any worse?

Actually wildly aggressive on Iran's part if they are hitting tankers before they even make it out of Iraqi waters, that's not trying to stop a ship running the straight at that point, that's just hitting tankers at random.
The Iranian leadership are toast and they know it.

At least these are all things that can be fixed after they're gone.

People should also remember that mines are not something you can just turn on and off.

Iranians also need the strait, and would be hurting themselves (massively) if they were to mine it thoroughly.

They’re going to use half measures for as long as they can in the hopes that they can restore the status quo.
