Canada set to surpass 100,000 assisted suicides — more than the country’s WWII death toll

Canada is set to pass a grim milestone in its medically-assisted suicide program with a total of 100,000 citizens projected to be euthanized by the government before its 10th anniversary on June 17.

The Great White North’s MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) program will soon cross the sickly six-figure threshold, according to The National Post.

Ottawa’s most recent data shows 15,767 Canadians were euthanized by the state in 2024 — 5.1% of all deaths in the nation that year.

About 45 Canucks per day are being euthanized, according to the report.

In 2021, a total of 9,842 Canadian people were euthanized.

Only 2,000 shelter dogs in Canada were put down that year, according to The Vet Desk.

As of 2024, total MAID deaths reached 76,475 citizens, nearly twice the 42,042 of Canadians who died in battle during World War II, according to the Canadian War Museum.

New York recently adopted its own version of the controversial program, the Medical Aid in Dying Act — which religious leaders have called a “societal failing.”

“The proliferation of assisted suicide in Canada is a human tragedy and societal failing — one that New York is on track to duplicate,” said Dennis Poust of the New York State Catholic Conference and a spokesman for New York Archbishop Ronald Hicks on public policy matters.

“Canada’s program is indeed a warning, one we pointed to again and again as a harbinger of New York’s future when appealing to lawmakers and the governor,” he said. “What starts out as a ‘choice’ quickly becomes an expectation for patients, especially the poor and underinsured and people with disabilities. Tragically, this is what we can expect here.”

The controversial program has come under renewed scrutiny after reports of same-day approval for MAID applications and claims that patients were pressured to needlessly end their life while suffering from depression.

The family of 26-year-old Kiano Vafaeian are calling for reforms after their son, who had Type 1 diabetes, who suffered seasonal depression and had vision problems, was approved for the suicide procedure and euthanized on Dec. 30, 2025, in British Columbia.

“We never thought there would be a chance that any doctor would approve a 22- or 23-year-old at that time for MAID because of diabetes or blindness,” mother Margarat Marsilla, of Ontario, told Fox News Digital.

New York has become the 14th state to approve a version of doctor-assisted-suicide, with the bill passing by a narrow margin in the state Legislature last June.

If you are struggling with suicidal thoughts or are experiencing a mental health crisis and live in New York City, you can call 1-888-NYC-WELL for free and confidential crisis counseling. If you live outside the five boroughs, you can dial the 24/7 National Suicide Prevention hotline at 988 or go to SuicidePreventionLifeline.org.

Most of the people getting offed are either physically or mentally incapable of doing that, at least the people I know that chose MAID. Also, killing yourself in your own house is a great way to completely fuck over your family. Try selling your house after you have to disclose someone killed themselves there, or don't disclose it and get sued later on. Sure we could have thousands of mentally and physically enfeebled people driving their wheelchair off bridges, hanging themselves in the forest or shooting themselves in their family home but again it often fucks over the families.

Euthanasia has been practiced in all western countries including the US for decades in palliative care. Upping the dose of morphine until death at the family or patients request is still common practice.

I was initially very against MAID and still many of the headlines piss me off, however having known people that chose it and seeing their circumstances made me have a more nuanced stance. People with advanced Alzheimer's often literally can't kill themselves.
There are palliative ways to let someone who is dying do so without suffering. There's an argument that it's a distinction without a difference to let someone die as opposed to to giving them a fatal dose of drugs, but the very fact that Canadian a healthcare professional will suggest suicide as an option is pretty sick. People are variable in their moods, and some days they may want it and others not. FFS, I've had bad enough gas that I wished I was dead in the moment, but then I took a shit and decided to live. Offering suicide as a solution preys on a person's weakness, which may be momentary, in a pretty sick way. It's not black and white, but it's pretty dark.

I hate Canada but this shit is satanic, what the fuck
What the fuck even went wrong with this country, it should be America 2.0 but instead they chose to speedrun into a self dystopia suicide

And I doubt it's any Indian or Chinese immigrant getting MAID either

Communists already define their enemies as being mentally ill using terms such as homophobia, transphobia, and intrinsic racism. A few updates the DSM to list these as incurable conditions is all it would take to make them eligible for MAID. And it won't be voluntary.

This is over 10 years. How long did Canada participate in WWII? Given enough time, the number of radioactive croc attack victims will exceed Canada's WWII death toll.

What is it with commies and massive death counts?
They're literally Nazi hohols tho, get raped, solzhenitsyn.

They also can't consent at that point.

I'm wondering how many backed out of it. It's got to be very difficult to kill yourself in this way. If 100k are dead, how many signed up and said no? How many were forced. These are huge numbers in a very short time. It doesn't even seem enough time to process this many people. And if they're not properly processed and assessed then there is a lot of murder happening with it.
They aren't killing people without consent, at least according to their rules.

Here is the official eligibility criteria:

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • make a voluntary request that is not the result of external pressure
  • have a serious and incurable illness, disease or disability (excluding a mental illness until March 17, 2027)
  • be in an advanced state of irreversible decline in capability
  • have enduring and intolerable physical or psychological suffering that cannot be alleviated under conditions the person considers acceptable
  • have decision-making capacity:
    • be able to give informed consent to receive MAID meaning that the person has consented to receiving MAID after they have received all information needed to make this decision)
    • be able to give informed consent both at the time of their request for MAID and immediately before receiving MAID, unless they are at risk of losing capacity and have applied for a waiver of the requirement to provide final consent or an advance request (Quebec only)

The instance I know with the Alzheimer's they had to sign a form when they were deemed fit of mind and they weren't maided until 3 years later when they were declining rapidly. According to my buddy the process was thorough and required lots of signoffs from multiple MDs and took months to finalize. Despite our medical system being overwhelmed and doctors overworked we aren't (yet) some 3rd world country, most of our doctors are very competent and are held to high standards.

Honestly, compared to Jeets and the economy, MAID is a complete non issue unless you are terminally online.

The next time a Canuck wants to smuggly go "at least we didn't elect Nazis", I'm going to remind them that nearly 6 digits of their population asked the government to execute them.

People here keep saying "life is precious" but if the jeets, sikhs, and chinese plaguing canada were signing up for or being pushed into MAID we would be fine with it.

Unfortunately, this was sold as a "it's for the suffering elderly and cancer patients!" trojan horse but seems to be functioning basically as state mandated eugenics and cost-savings. Same day is wild, it should take at least as long as it takes to get an ambulence call up there (2 weeks).

No, Canadian Child. I do not support genocide. Enjoy life.
