As this is off topic, I'll put what I have to say in a spoiler.
This is an exaggeration.
According to the Russian MOD, they captured 6,800 square kilometers of land in 2025.
According to Weeb Union, it's 6,200
According to AMK, it's 5,500
and according to Deepstate it was something around 3,000 or 4,000 (I can't remember the exact number as I don't keep up with their estimates)
What Ukraine recaptured in this past month was around 250 square kilometers of land in Dnipro which is impressive (Zapo and Donetsk were each at like 100 square kilometers recaptured). The AfU hasn't demonstrated that they're able to keep up with this pace and if anything, their performance shows the opposite with their progress now slowing down significantly as the Russians are clinging onto the Ukrainian built second line of defense in the region. It should also be noted that the Ukrainians had to pull off forces from numerous sectors of the frontline to pull off this singular counteroffensive whereas the Russians were able to be fighting Kupyansk, Hulyaipole, Siversk, Stepnohirsk, Kostiantynvika, and Rodynske all at the same time.
My point here is that it's obvious Ukraine will not be able to fight all over the front simply due to the limitations of their manpower and equipment which is why we're seeing Russia's pace of advance continue to increase. It of course isn't fast at all but an improvement is an improvement no matter how small

Those cameras work by detecting differences in heat, not like OVERALL heat, right? So even if that was just a painted black silhouette, it would almost definitely be all the same heat and therefore all the same shade. Given most of my knowledge of thermal imaging knowledge comes from video games and osmosis, please correct me if I'm wrong, I just wanna confirm.

No I didn't. I am pointing out that just because there are people who don't like their government, it doesn't mean there aren't those that clearly do. Any foreigner seeing the anti-Trump protests sprawling entire city blocks could use that as an argument for "freeing" America. Why is popularity even an argument anyway? I thought with Venezuela we disposed of even pretending to be motivated by the well-being of citizens and left the commies in power? Trump even said this morning he doesn't care if they end up a democracy.
