Can you elaborate on how the ruling did that?
They said you have to use other statutes which aren't as easy or broad.
Not really.

The ruling is "you used the wrong statute for a lot of your tarrifs, you actually had to use these statutes. Also no refunds lmao."
Too bad most of the other statutes are extremely specific to certain individual goods or require a US Commerce Dept investigation or fucking Congress to get off their lazy asses and do something
The ruling is a slap on the wrist for Trump. The fact that they didnt mention paying back the 130 billion collected proves that lol
Thankfully lol, we need that cash
Not the worst ruling. Basically, you can't impose tariffs unilaterally even under emergency powers, you have to go through congress. It's not a knock on policy just on procedure. It takes some of Trump's leverage in negotiations but that's about it. It's highly unlikely that any money will have to be paid back unless entities sue for them and win.
Thing is, Congress is a bunch of sell outs or foreign governments so they can't be trusted to impose tariffs.
Bessent seems like he's the type of guy to be 3 or 4 steps ahead, and they had to expect that SCOTUS would strike it down. The repayment aspect is the only one that concerns me a little bit.
No fucking refunds (the SC didn't address that so I doubt they have a leg to stand on)
China too if I'm reading it right.
Yes any tariff on China pre Feb 2025 absolutely stays
What's wild about this Supreme Court decision is the fact that it doesn't stop Trump or any President from just going "We don't want shit from your dogshit country" and shutting off all trade with them.

Trump could be funny and just shut off all Trade to countries he doesn't like
I wish. Sadly some foreign slop addicted faggots would sue.

Funny how every country on earth can tariff US goods but when we do it we're the bad guys....

OK, time for a poll on the phrase the Establishment media will coalesce around to describe the situation in light of today's decision:

:like: - "This is the beginning of the end for Trump"
:agree: - "The walls are closing in on Trump"
:feels: - "This is a bombshell for Trump"
:drink: - "The Trump Administration is O-ver"
:lunacy:- "Trump is a racist"

Ready, set ... GO!
No "Two more weeks until Trump is finished" ?

SCOTUS only considered tariffs issued under the IEEPA & struck those down. President Trump primarily relied on IEEPA for sanctions & emergency-based restrictions. Numerous major tariffs were imposed under standard trade statutes, not emergency powers, so many remain in effect.
the fact that this was given to us by useful mistake as "tariffs dead" has caused more problems than any threadshitting today.

I think to have political discussions you need to have people from the left and right
You guys have to realize that Hogan in particular does not want to discuss or debate anything with right wingers. He want to insult you with impunity and feel validated in doing so. It's why he mostly stays in TES hugbox threads because there he gets asspats for his vitriol and will cry to the mods if you disrupt that.

He largely backed off after establishing that he wouldn’t tolerate third party countries serving as pass throughs for China to evade said tariffs, and used the gravity of the situation to even some imbalances

You do realize that we near universally took the short end on tariffs, right? That in the majority of cases, we imposed lower tariffs than were imposed on us?

Nothing about that was disastrous. Prices barely flinched anywhere
He kept threatening blanket tariffs regardless of whether he kept backing off them.

And some of the tariffs Trump’s people argued were imposed on the US were things like some countries not wanting chicken washed in ammonia. Which was incoherent bullshit.

What did I tell you?

What did I fucking tell you?

America is finished. We aren't allowed to tariff other countries, and soon we won't be allowed to have our own country once SCOTUS cucks on birthright citizenship too. It's over. This country is done for.

Wow the Supreme Court is just straight up cucked

Safe to say this is the year MAGA dies for good, thanks to the Supreme Court.

Only leftists and TPTB will ever be allowed to do things.

You forgot to mention that Trump will be forced to refund all of the tariffs he already made. And if you think he will pull an Andrew Jackson and ignore the ruling, you are lying to yourself.

He's a kosher-right president who's here to say things that please the goyim while doing nothing to help anyone but Israel and their dual-citizens in America. If you think Vance will be any better, you're retarded.
The minute I learned Vance named his son Vivek I lost all faith in him.

Then why does their thread ban dissenters on sight? Honest debate goes both ways.

I dissent pretty often, talk about being very Left wing politically, and have generally never really gotten any guff in this thread.

I think you generally have to be pretty retarded to get banned.
