Being able to riff on modern films that people outside of niche film clubs have heard of was a big boost.
I've probably seen the Rifftrax of the entire Harry Potter series more times than I've seen the films raw.

Eh, she herself may have been ugly but Salma Hayek did the film of her (lol, typical Hollywood casting) where she got tits out. So Frida Kahlo at least brought something beautiful into the world

Yeah but even in the 90s they had a better selection of B movies. They really weren't digging into the public domain as good as they were in the Mike years.
I mean don't get me wrong rifftrax is cool and everything, but God damn those years they were on the Sci Fi channel were peak. My mom bought me a bunch of the VHS tapes at a flea market when I was a kid because we both thought the show was hilarious.

I complained about kaiju ones, but it did intro me to gamera
'gamera is really neat, gamera is full of meat'.

The thing is though that 70s-90s schlock action/scifi/horror really are prime material. They didn't get many of those until Mike zone. Like Time Chasers and others.

Those are what rifftrax and rlm best of the worst almost always focus on.

I loved the cheesy 50s monster movies and the shitty 70s sci fi star wars knock offs. They were able to squeeze a ton of jokes out of those movies.
I really am surprised that they didn't make the reboot woke at all. You think they would have been all over that with their bullshit netflix identity politics, but other than Patton Oswalt being in it, it felt just like the 90s episodes.

Its not like Mexico lacks good artists either. There José María Velasco who trained under European artists and painted gorgeous landscapes and nature scenes. Luis Coto who painted same. Kahlo's work was just a bastardization of Cubanism, Dali surrealism and narcissism. Tons of self portraits, the left promotes her because she was one of their own. The trope of an ugly lesbian woman whining about colonialism with crudely painted works is a time honored tradition that continues to this day.
