It was slightly difficult to get a clear answer on this. It seems like you can't buy handguns anymore, but people who already bought them get to keep them? You can't own an AR or an AK, but you can own a Mini-14 and an SKS? It's tricky to quickly find out exactly what 'kind' of guns are banned there.
Mini 14 is already banned (the gun used in the Ecole Polytechnique shooting by a half-Quebecois, half-Algerian incel over 30 years ago) and the SKS is skating on the razor's edge at the moment. Right now it's Schrodinger's gun.
So what I've deduced is this. It's 2026 and you want to buy a gun in Canada. Here are the practical limitations:
1. No handguns.
2. No full-auto guns.
3. Semi-auto guns... it depends on the specific gun, but it's easier to assume "no" until you hear otherwise.
