There's an old video after he did all that buying and he said he was basically painfully aware of the fleeting nature of Youtube fame, so he took a bunch of the money he was getting and did all that stuff so he could have a shop that could be used for youtube stuff but was more specifically to be able to be self sufficient in the day job if it all went away.I seem to remember a few years ago he bought a ranch, a massive HAAS CNC machine with all the accoutrements and then basically disappeared for a couple years.
I think he figured the money train was petering out and 'went away' for a while. Then figured out that all he had to do was act all bootstrappy for boomers and say things like 'We don' put up with stuff like this out on the rigs, I tell ya wha'.' and presto, secondary income.
