The funniest part of all this is that it seems like Rowan was supposed to be Tom's degeneracy beard GF. A plain, boring girl who goes to church and college that he could bring to family functions while still fucking better looking but less stable ehoes on the DL. I think there's possibly some merit to this - Tom's texts with Rowan are super dry, but he had no issues horny texting with Katie - saying how much her pics turn him on, talking about being excited to stuff her pussy. Because Katie is so obviously a damaged e-girl, even if they lived next door to each other he probably wouldn't have tried to date her.

Rowan was less attractive but more outwardly trad-presenting. Maybe Tom legitimately thought he was getting a girl that wasn't a super online weirdo - I mean, she definitely hid the fact that she was a fangirl and had previously messaged him.
