I really hate this modern idea that medical professionals have some inherent duty to coddle patients and ensure they never ever have hurt fee-fees. When you take your car to a mechanic, you expect him to diagnose the problem and fix it. You don't expect him to tell you that it's not your fault that the engine seized because you kept driving it with the oil warning light on. Going to a doctor or surgeon is no different. They are not your friend or your fucking therapist.
This all came about when women started being allowed to make decisions about what defined Best Practice for patients, and it's complete fucking nonsense.

In psychiatry? In gender reassignment surgery? These fields were mostly designed by men and they were fucked up before women joined. This seems more like “the customer is always right” type of attitude than anything else.

I’ve had multiple breast exams. We used to have them every two years when we had PAP smears. The GP did them as an integral part of the checkup, and to demonstrate how to do self examinations monthly at home.

I haven’t had one in a Drs office for about 20 years. Once you hit the age of breast screen mammograms in Australia, it’s not common to be offered them unless the patient requests one.

I wrote up a long breakdown about where this originated from, but it started sounding really autistic, so all I'll say instead is that this is less a matter of having more men or women in the field and moreso a matter of healthcare going from a field of trusted expertise to an industry that focuses on ever-increasing sales and happy customers. Not all industries suffer from the cold clasp of capitalism, but healthcare - and many, many scientifically related industries - certainly do.

ANOTHER fistula.​

I’m just fucking devastated. I’m a week out from my THIRD revision. Things were healing absolutely beautifully, and now at the one week mark I’ve developed another fistula on the underside of the shaft. I can’t take this anymore. It’s super small, just a couple drips each time I pee, but enough that if I stand to pee I’ll piss on myself. I’ve been using a very light layer of aquaphor on the underside - is there anything else I can do? What are the chances this heals on its own? I can’t keep fucking doing this. I can’t live like this anymore. This has taken over the last seven months of my fucking life and my entire bank account. I’m borderline not going to finish my dissertation and my wife cannot keep taking care of me. I’ve tried to stay positive this whole time but I just can’t. Please give me hope because I don’t have any. Sorry for the negative rant I’m just so far at the end of my rope.

People here are dismissing your callout but that totally stood out to me too. Not the delusional teen girl part, the exams themselves. It is not fucking standard to be getting regular breast exams as a teen girl. Yes it is true that we are taught (hopefully) how to do breast checks at a young age but unless there's a medical reason, no teen girl is going to the doctor regularly for breast exams. It is weird and he is fucking weird.

So weird that I felt compelled to dive his profile a little bit last night.

He claims he was put on puberty blockers at 10 and estrogen at 12. I thought troons said that never happens?? That the most minors get is social transition (name change, pronouns, clothing) and maybe puberty blockers?

I am a woman, I have also had a breast exam but only because I had a concern. I have never had one in any kind of standard GP visit and I haven't heard of any women I know personally who have gotten them without previous concern for their breasts either (or being invited for a mammogram due to reaching the age for that, or previous cancer). Like I said before I am in the UK so maybe it's different here or maybe I just don't know many women who have gotten a regular breast exam.
 
The only time I got a breast exam was when I went to the gynecologist, but it was 100% secondary to the original reason for coming, an exam of the actual anatomy, and optional with my consent. I can't imagine any gyn practitioner allowing some guy to come in exclusively for moob palpation.

They’ve been able to crack down on pain med and antibiotic use, I find it hard to believe they can’t crack down on this, especially with EMRs. Some spoonies try that “make sure you document why you won’t give me that” thing and they get discharged.

Men call suicide and rape crisis hotlines to jerk off all of the time, I’m sure the OB/GYN staff get weird calls too and know when someone is fucking with them.

May be a little PL here but I can’t understand any of this. I’m a woman, I had to have a hysterectomy (I’m older and have kids tho, and I’m close to menopause so it’s as ok as it can be) and it sucks! I never wanted ANY surgery, I know the risks and complications and I hesitated forever because I didn’t wanna mess with those systems even though I’m older and done with using them for childbearing.

I cannot understand wanting ANY unnecessary surgery, having a surgery for legitimate medical reasons sucks bad enough even in middle age, but when you’re young and for the most retarded reasons imaginable? For a delusion?! AND the doctors going along with it, they know it’s horrific and yet they still do it. I can’t imagine what’ll become of these people when they get to middle age (lol we know a lot don’t make it that far). It’s all insanity, mental illness and it’s evil that doctors are doing this to these insane people. Infuriating, actually.

Sorry for the rant but Jesus. It’s batshit. Purposely harming yourself for a lie. I’ll never understand.
