Stancil doesn't understand how deeply cynical the left is. Your average activist leftist is suffocating under so many layers of irony that he doesn't know what he even believes any more, he really just likes saying stuff to get reactions. The left is, today, a million little John Stewarts, mugging for the camera and acting like assholes without even bothering to stake out a consistent position or even really considering that a consistent position is something a person could have. Modern leftism is an affect to gain status in a social hierarchy, not any real set of consistent beliefs and political goals.

Will is a leftist, but he's deeply earnest about it. He actually believes all this dumb shit; he doesn't understand that it's just stuff you say to get in some protestbitch's panties. Contrast with Alex Pretti. Every moment we have of him on camera reveals someone who is effortlessly practiced to look good on camera to leftist women, despite his weird head. Sure, he pushed it too far, but he had a carefully crafted look and manner calculated to get leftist women to pay attention to him.

If he wasn’t pathetic he wouldn’t be anything at all. I just can’t bring myself to hate him, he’s simultaneously too pitiful and too endearing. I think part of it is the knowledge he is simply too disliked by his peers to ever have a position of real power, so he’s not really truly a threat.
