Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream Will Allow Same-Sex Relationships & Non-Binary Miis

Tomodachi Life fans have a lot to celebrate today. Along with a release date for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, Nintendo has confirm that players will be able to create non-binary Miis in the new game and that they'll be able to select dating preferences for their characters.

This was all confirmed in today's Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Nintendo Direct, and in a game where customisation and creation is off-the-charts, more gender and relationship options should be a given. It should've been a given in 2013, but Nintendo is making up for it this time around.

Now, when creating your Mii, you'll be able to select from three genders: Male, Female, and Non-binary. And you can also select your Mii's dating preferences, again between the three gender options. You can select one, more than one, or none of them. Essentially, you can date whoever you want — or no one at all — catering to gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, aromantic, asexual, and all sorts of LGBTQIA+ relationships.

This is a huge win for many fans of Tomodachi Life on the 3DS, which drew criticism back when it released in Japan in 2013. Initially, a bug appeared to allow same-sex relationships in-game, which Nintendo later patched out. Nintendo followed up the patch with some clarifications, but fans were understandably still unhappy that the option to date whoever they wanted wasn't available.

This prompted the 'Miiquality' social media campaign ahead of the game's Western release, with Nintendo of America addressing the controversy shortly after. Then, two days later, the company issued an apology, stating "if we create a next installment in the Tomodachi series, we will strive to design a game-play experience from the ground up that is more inclusive, and better represents all players."

And, given today's Nintendo Direct, it seems like the developers have stuck to their promise, which is fantastic to see. Now we can all spend time with Hugh Morris however we want, romantically or not.

Cue the GamerGate incels and YouTube grifters crying about the most trivial shit in a literal children's game. Literally Weimar you goys pronouns_lover.jpg

I had always hoped for a Tomodachi Life sequel, but it seems a lot of it like the foods and clothes you can gift them are just a one-for-one from the 3DS version. All they showed off in their direct was decorating. Nintendo has stripped all its lifesim games to be a glorified Minecraft. Look what they did to Animal Crossing.

Has the company gone to shit, or am I just too old?

Tomodachi life is very irrelevant in the gaming sphere and it's already known that it's a sims type game that the queers or girls play, just like animal crossing. What I'm saying is that the grifters will not care and they only care about the mainstream shit.

I could see some people getting use out of these features in a unique way. Someone making a non human type mii, like a Teddy Bear, and setting it as non-binary with 0 preferences for attraction. These are honestly good quality of live improvements for a 10 year old game.

I'm not still buying it. I have no interest in a "People Antfarm Simulator", but maybe someone's kid does. It's a shame that most of these people who are interested are man-children.

Even the people who do like these kinds of games aren't holding their breath. Watch them shill it for $60

The fag and troon shit are not even the worst part. The game won't have any online features and you can't even share screenshots or videos through your Switch. Fuck Nintendo.

Wasn't there a way to have your Miis have kids in the first one? Can the gay Miis have butt babies?
Babies were a thing in the first game but only between a married male-female couple. If you wanted fag couples to even exist in the first game, you would have to troon out your Miis since the game made every Mii heterosexual. It isn't a perfect solution because Miis hate crossdressing in that game so trooned out Miis will be unhappy being forced to wear clothes that aren't appropriate for their assigned sex. I can see them possibly getting rid of babies altogether in this game since it gets way too degenerate with homos and troons now thrown in the mix.

I think is not a big deal, specially because is completely optional, you guys hate whinny fags and you´re...kinda acting like them....JUST SAYIN

They have the same system in Iran.
