Yes. That's how employment works. No matter what bullshit you have going on at home, they still need the fries put in the bag while they're hot and fresh, not whenever you decide it's a good time to show up.

Your employer is not at all required or even encouraged to sort out your personal life for you. As a matter of fact, legally, it's completely the opposite; they open themselves up to all sorts of nasty lawsuits if they attempt to intervene in your personal life in any way. And if you can't show up and put the fries in the bag while they're hot and fresh, your employer is obligated to find someone else who CAN put the fries in the bag while they're hot and fresh.

Your plights are neither the employer's business nor problem. They were doing you a favor by letting you resign instead of firing you for cause. Most workplaces, once you said "Well, you see, my ex had a gun---" would say, "Ima stop you right there, I don't need to know. Either put the fries in the bag right now or YOU'RE FIRED."

This website has existed for over a decade and dealt with far more significant hardware issues many times over. Disc array lifespan is between 3-7 years I believe, making this a pretty routine replacement. We're currently financially more secure than we have been for a long time since being cut off by payment platforms thanks to Billpay and it is not an exaggeration to say that we survived the most significant deplatforming attempt in the history of the Internet. I wouldn't get too excited yet.
