I want to open up to you guys, it's about a web series I've followed called LOVEWEB. It is a web series that introduces different internet subcultures and curiosities in animation form, hosted by two characters: Manon, a cat that is an old school emoticon brought to life, and Cybermare, a sardonic goth flavored pony calling back to 2010's MLP fandom.
You can check out the introduction of the series here.
For a while, I kept up with the series because I enjoyed its presentation of old school internet topics, and the animation had a pretty distinct personality that had me engaged. It is animated by a tranny, and they infantilize internet history to a degree, but the production was good, and I liked the characters enough that I overlooked it. Well, one of the two main characters, at least, Manon is innocent and cute enough to be inoffensive, but Cybermare has a personality that is kinda grating due to her constant cynicism. She often is the vehicle to few of the show's instances of dirty jokes, and her snide commentary can get on my nerves, but the two characters are meant to bounce off and contrast each other, so I get the dynamic. But man, personally, I get annoyed when she tries to crush Manon's enthusism to the topic she covers.
Now the series is not going to be everyone's cup of tea, especially the average Kiwifarmer. This web series is kinda Tumblr coded, more specifically, it is made by trannies that create pages on Neocities, so you know that there is a strong degree of libtardedness in its production. However, the series is overall pretty comfy, and the strong stylistic direction of the show is something to behold. If there is one thing I criticize about the show and coverage of Internet subcultures, it's not really designed to be an in-depth look at old internet, and sometimes the characters derails off to its own subplot that doesn't elaborate on the topic.
For example, the Homestuck episode is pretty incomprehensible if you don't know anything about Homestuck. It doesn't help that most of the episode is the characters just fucking around, and it's hard to tell if the tangents are part of the Homestuck story or a subplot invented by the web series. In all honesty, I never watched a Homestuck video that ever suffeciently explain what the story is, so LOVEWEB isn't alone in that. But occasionally, the series divulges from an animated video essay to what is effectively the creator playing dolls with his OC in the universe of the medium he is talking about.
I lost touch after this episode, because I felt like the series lost the plot and I hadn't kept up with it since.
Well, I'm not here to sell you on the show; there is a reason I am posting this on AIDS thread, because today LOVEWEB released a video on Homestar Runner. Homestar Runner being such a formative show growing up, I clicked on it.
Few seconds in and I noticed something immediately and put the video at a screeching halt. The voices of the characters were clearly different. Manon was different; it felt close enough to the original, but I did miss the vocaloid-like jankyness the first voice had. Cybermare, meanwhile, sounds like a nasally tranny. In fact, I'm confident it's a tranny because the fandom wiki of the show labels Cybermare's gender as transgender female, and any gender warriors have a coniption when an actual woman voices a in-universe tranny. So there is no way they got an actual woman to voice this.
Additionally, this wiki is how I found out that Manon was actually voiced by a woman, however she transitioned into a man soon after, and decided to give up her spot in the cast. It doesn't make too much sense to me because evidently the character is asexual, so who really gives a damn if she is voiced by a woman, or a woman pretending to be a man, but that's beside the point. She was replaced by someone else. And frankly, I really shouldn't be surprised a web series created by Neocities autists would be filled with trannies.
So why did the characters have drastically different voices, one of which makes it virtually impossible to watch the video?
It turns out that at some point, the voices in the series were changed from using various AI voice generators, such as 15.ai, to hiring human voice actors. Now there is nothing wrong with that, using AI voices and then hiring human VA's is a practice I promote, as AI voices can be a decent option if you need voiced audio while not having a solid network of people to give their voice. However, I think in this case, this is an outright downgrade that wasn't worth it.
First, I didn't even know the show used AI to begin with, I thought they were using some old school vocaloid software or voice synth. I knew they weren't real human voices, but I assumed AI voices from 15 ai was way more janky than I heard from the show, so I am impressed that I never caught on that they used AI voices. Despite that the original voices were genuinely charming. I can imagine the change came from other trannies irate protest over the usage of AI once it became vogue to be ape-ish retards about it.
Second, the VA for cybermale does not sound like her original. At all. To the point I'm constantly distracted, a gravely voice of a man comes out of a character who has been speaking with an AI generated voice of a female MLP character up until now. Now, if you thought Cybermare's snide comments were annoying, imagine hearing them come out of the mouth of an arrogant tranny that thinks he's above it all.
Third, I thought it fit the theme that Manon is voiced by an AI, considering she is an AI in the web series. Trannies have this obsession that you can't cast actual women, or men for that matter, to play transgender roles, even if the actor's sex aligns with the character's gender. They usually mention "authenticity" as an argument. But that goes out the window when an AI character is actually voiced by an AI.
Is the show ruined? Well, I don't think the show lost any fans after the recast, but this is a case of the anti-AI derangement creating a worse product as a consequence.
The creator of WebLove is an MTF, so the show already started feeling kinda molested, but since the recast, this show is now full-on raped by buckling to the demands of the hate mob and replacing them with significantly worse voices.
