PL: I have traveled extensively across the country on shoestring budgets. Portland is maybe the only major city I've seen that didn't have a "oh shit, I just fucked up" interstate exit.

Portland and Oregon in general just aren't a huge economic engine to begin with. Their major claim to fame is Portland Cement. Before the big influx and the construction boom it created, my born and bred local friend from Salem laughed at the idea you'd move to Oregon looking for work.

It's why panhandling is legal.

While doubtless some hippies moved there as you said, in recent years you can blame Portlandia. "It's where young people go to retire!" If that was true, you fucking ruined it telling the whole fucking world about it, you 2 stupid fucking yentas.

I unironically love Portland. It's not quite as bad as often portrayed. I stay downtown when I'm there and walk around the city and the park at night, bar hopping, etc. Never been hassled, never even felt remotely concerned. The crazies are crazy but generally never fuck with you.

It's a beautiful city in the right spots and adjacent to great country.

i was in portland a year ago with a friend for a visit and we saw a lot of fent zombies. i'm not sure i'd qualify the city as beautiful until the apocalyptic shambling epidemic has been quelled. all the physical beauty in the world isn't worth the disgusting dodging of druggies and homeless. is it better now?

When you think about it, the Hostage Crisis of '79 was an awful misstep by the Mullahs. Had they kept up the cordiality with the US in their dealings, negotiated a nationalization ala Venezuela in 1974, and not just steal everything, they would be a huge regional power by now. Saddam was a pro-soviet ruler in neighboring Iraq, instead of pissing America off they could have helped you there in return for running even more guns into Afghanistan and glowing it up against the USSR. Iran could have entered the 90s with control over Iraq and lots of influence in Afghanistan, a Shia Saudi Arabia where their usefulness outweighs their retardation.
 
I will always reccomend c90adventures whenever it comes to discussing a foreign country in terms of on the ground reality of the peoples of the country. He was the OG "streetshitter" poster willing to say plainly that India is a shithole filled with subhumans. His video on Iran is interesting as everyone seems very nice.

Oregon has restrictions on how much rent can be raised each year, no no-cause evictions after the first year, and a bunch of other extremely tenant-friendly rules. It's a rough place to be a small landlord, and there are predatory tenants who try to bait violations from inexperienced landlords to make money on the side.

The problem is they dont have the facilities to mass detain people. They can take them to a federal detention center. But those arent really setup the same way as a county jail. NORMALLY the feds would have a working agreement for county to hold them.

Ice cant hold them in immigrant detainment. So their options are a federal detention center or maybe work something out with the BOP if there is a local federal prison with capacity.

Ice is most likely in a situation where they literally cant arrest all the people right now.
