A federal agent shot and killed a Minneapolis motorist when she allegedly tried to run over law enforcement officers during an immigration crackdown in the city, authorities said Wednesday.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot the woman in her vehicle in a residential neighborhood in Minneapolis, Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

Video posted online showed the vehicle crashed in a residential neighborhood. The shooting drew throngs of angry protesters to the scene in an area that is the latest target of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.

Follow live coverage of the shooting from MPR News in Minneapolis.

There was a large presence of federal and local officers, yellow police tape and cars that had been in a crash in the residential neighborhood. Gregory Bovino, a senior U.S. Customs and Border Patrol official who has been the face of crackdowns in Los Angeles, Chicago and elsewhere, was among the group.

“We are aware of a shooting involving federal law enforcement near East 34th Street and Portland Avenue. Please avoid this area,” the city government said on X.

In a scene similar to the Los Angeles and Chicago crackdowns, bystanders didn't hold back in venting their anger, blowing whistles, taunting the federal agents.

“Shame! Shame! Shame!” and “ICE out of Minnesota!” they loudly chanted from behind the police tape, referring to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

After the shooting, Mayor Jacob Frey said immigration agents were “causing chaos in our city.”

“We are demanding ICE leave the city and state immediately. We stand rock solid with our immigrant and refugee communities," Frey said on social media.

The area where the shooting occurred is a modest neighborhood south of downtown Minneapolis, just a few blocks from some of the oldest immigrant markets in the area and a mile from where George Floyd was killed by police in 2020.

“We’ve been trying to live life as fully as possible in light of the fear and anxiety that we feel,” said the Rev. Hierald Osorto, pastor at St. Paul’s-San Pablo Lutheran Church, which has a predominantly Latino congregation in the area.

The Immigration Defense Network, a coalition of groups serving immigrants in Minnesota, held a training session Tuesday night for about 100 people who are willing to hit the streets to monitor the federal enforcement.

“I feel like I'm an ordinary person, and I have the ability do something so I need to do it,” Mary Moran told KMSP-TV.

The Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday that it had launched an extraordinary immigration enforcement operation, with 2,000 agents and officers expected in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area for a crackdown tied in part to allegations of fraud involving Somali residents.

I'm sorry to play devil's advocate but I truly just want to understand. I've watched the video from several angles and it looks like she was just trying to flee the scene. There is no one in front of her car or behind it when she moves. Where is the person she was supposedly trying to run over? You can't run someone over who is on the side of the car...cars don't move sideways... Please just help me understand.

Edit, a screenshot was provided to answer my question. I see it now, thank you.

Good edit.

Also, they were trying to prevent her from fleeing in the first place. Video and audio recording has them demanding she step out of the vehicle, not take off with an officer dangling out the side.

The video after the shooting is so surreal lmao. Some woman dead in her car while a group of maniacs start doing reddit-esc heckling to the ice officers. It's like a bit from a really weird comedy show. I can't imagine watching someone get shot and then shouting "YOU JUST DID A MURDERRRR"
The activists were like this during Trump’s first term too. I’ve seen many a protest stream where the activists shout this Reddit tier nonsense and act like they’re in a movie where they’re the main characters. It comes off as really performative and fake and only their own side falls for the act.

LMAO at Minneapolis Public Schools giving kids two days off so the urban youths can go riot and give Walz' government the distraction they so desperately need.

This is a refrain I keep seeing. The thing is, is there's a LIMIT. No cops, soldiers or agents are these emotionless things. When you're screamed at ALL DAY, have stuff thrown at you EVERY DAY, are attacked, are threatened, YOUR FAMILY IS THREATENED, people have even SHOT at ICE agents, there's a point where NO MATTER HOW MUCH TRAINING YOU HAVE your so tense that the slightest thing will cause a problem.

I'm not excusing BAD behavior. I'm saying this dude, though I think it was a POOR move, it was a JUSTIFIED move. I believe he FULLY thought he was in danger and reacted. Her tires slip on the ice, watch it, so she's hitting that engine. If there was no ice there's a good chance he'd have gotten clipped. And in the adrenaline filled, scary, day-already-pushing-you-to-the-limit situation, you believe you're in danger, you might make an extreme call.

This happens with soldiers in the middle east, it happens with cops on the force for decades. It happens. It sucks, but it's not something we can all just go "OH WELL THEY SHOULD BE BETTER." BRO They're "better" trust me, there's just a fucking limit.

You go and get in front of risk and danger and threat ALL DAY EVERY DAY. Then try to say "well, I should be better."

White woman, terrorist, black fent head, doesn't matter.

Again, I'm not saying his call was GOOD, I'm saying I UNDERSTAND IT and I think it is arguably justifiable. Was there a BETTER choice? Sure. But there's a lot going on. Not just "Hey, the people who scream you should die are taking some sort of physical action and you're very directly in the path, WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST CHILL BRUH? LIKE BE BETTER MAN!??!?"

guys the fat guy from iowa kristi noem gave 50k and zero training is JUSTIFIED and we should all UNDERSTAND his position as someone who is able to kill people in the street when he feels even moderately threatened while the rest of us have to tip toe around even the slightest hint of violence

Modern college has produced retards and called them “educated”.

Surprise, it's the consequences of hiring otherwise non-educated people and giving them firearms. God forbid the car was going an extra mile per hour, he might have got a bad bruise.

Also, rear wheel drive - the car was clearly not going directly towards the amateur-policeman. This is indicative of (and I know this is a difficult subject for lots of Americans) the car turning towards the right after the initial shots. For those struggling to understand, here is what I mean:

Yeah if I was the officer I probably would've just parried the car. Even if I didn't have a parry weapon equipped I probably would've invested enough into tanking to not have to worry about getting hit anyway or I could've fired my gun into the exhaust at just the right angle that it ricochets causing the engine to stop. But they can only hire inept evil MAGA chuds now who wouldn't be willing or able to do such a maneuver

I remember the portland protests where some dude was yelling "Hold the line" and some woman was walking around naked and there were SM posts of the power of the vulva in the face of evil.

ITS ALL FUCKING PROVACATIVE PERFORMACE SHIT THE BITCHS BULLDYKE WIFE WAS OUTSIDE FILMING.

this, but unironically

part of being a cop (or a fed) is you have the unique ability to detain people

another part of being a cop (or a fed) is people drive cars at you

so ethically, it's a wash

I might be strawmanning this, but I feel a compulsive urge to per-emptively counter any argument made from libshits and leftoids that "you're laughing at this woman being shot yet you were so quick to shame people for making fun of Charlie Kirk getting killed." And there's both a quick and elegant response to that and also a more long winded one. The short answer is that this woman was trying to run over someone with her car, whereas Kirk was assassinated, and it should be obvious to anyone with half a brain that one is an act of self-defence and one is an act of political violence. But the longer answer is that the left-wing discourse around the Kirk shooting - everything from outright celebration to memeing him the way George Floyd kind of got memed - typifies everything that I despise about the whole "dark woke" culture. We know we're fucked up and laugh at heinous shit, because irreverence and cynicism is kind of in our nature. I'm not going to blanket generalise the entire right wing but the online right is especially very irreverent and practices a lot of gallows humour because psychoanalytically that's the sort of people it attracts: people who know the world is fucked up and are angry at the people encouraging it or complicit in it, and it taps into a desire to just burn everything to the ground or just embrace the absurdism of it all. Leftists have the Marxist mindset that everything needs to be equal, everything needs to "punch up." It's okay to laugh at Kirk getting killed because he's a safe target: he's a white conservative man who pushes political wrongthink. They've been so desperate for their own safe target to ridicule or meme in death because it gives them an outlet to tap into the urge to laugh at something fucked up that they deny themselves every day. A lot of people, myself included, can't really find Kirk jokes funny because the people who make them are hypocritical and vindictive at their core, and ironically are probably more genuinely hateful that people making soyjak edits of a white woman getting herself killed.

Edit: It was a 37 year old White woman, not a Somalian. This could end up as Winter of love when leftists eventually try to tie it to police brutality.

White victim, so don't expect riots. Most people have completely forgotten about when this same police department (a Somali officer actually), shot and killed a white lady for no reason not too long before George Floyd. There is a reason why most of the people reading this have never heard of Justine Damond.

That being said, the officer in this case should be tried for murder based on the video. There was no threat to his life, and since she wasn't suspected of a violent crime you can't make the case that he was protecting the public.

So I've been putting together the chronology on Ms. Renee Good's life. Originally I was told she was a widow who had recently remarried.

She married her first husband and had two children with him.

Then she left him and abandoned the kids or got divorced and lost custody, I can't tell which, in order to marry a comedian.

Then she divorced this second husband, the comedian, to be with a woman. He killed himself, leaving her with the kid (she'd probably have abandoned it or lost custody again if that hadn't happened, based on previous performance).

Rebecca Good, the butch partner, was adopted and previously had a fiancee who is named Carrie and now lives in North Carolina.

My response to leftists saying "but the right got mad when we made fun of Charlie Kirk!" is "Why should I try and convince people that want me dead and always argue in bad faith?"
