I was reading this story just last week. I wonder (highly suspect) this is also an aim to get the Cuban govt to fall.

Something to note:
  • Roughly 50% of Cuba's oil needs are imported, with Venezuela being the primary supplier.
  • 85-95% of Cuba's electricity is produced via oil.
The "special period" (severe economic hardship in Cuba) in the 90s (following the collapse of the soviet union and then end of Soviets/Russia sending oil to Cuba) only ended with the Venezuelans signing an agreement with Cuba to supply oil which is a big part of their economy, including reselling fuel at a markup. The special period ended after the agreement with Venezuela in 2000.

In the 1980s, selling re-exported Soviet oil for a markup accounted for over 40% of Cuba's total hard currency revenues (during a time of low global oil prices). One can imagine the markup with Venezuela (who probably sold it at a discounted rate) would also be a big contributor to their economy.

I remember reading about the electronic warfare games Russia and the US played in Syria. A US officer said it was the most intense EW environment in history. Us and them trying as hard as both could to jam and generally mess with each other's radars, GPS, comms, everything. This was during the first Trump administration

And now I see, in every dustup since then, when Russian tech and American tech squares off, American tech fucking mogs the Russians' shit. Russian everything jammed and wiped out no problemo in Iran and Venezuela, American planes - whether it's Jews or Mutts flying them - go wherever they want whenever they want, what we want to hit gets hit, and then we go back to base. It's basically routine now. Maybe Russia shouldn't have shown us so much of their toys and procedures back then, shouldn't have given us that experience

It would not surprise me if Rubio wants to be the magnificent Cuban bastard who will bring down the Castro regime. Now that Venezuela's shipments are blockaded, only Mexico can supply oil to Cuba, and I would not put my chips on Mexico given that their state run oil company, PEMEX, is an even more incompetent disaster than PDVSA. Unless Iran (lol), Russia (lol) or the Gulf States (double lol) can supply them, their energy supply is completely fucked.

I know it's Brasil and all corruption wise, but I'm more so curious if the Brazilian military leadership would take over shit if the leadership went full retard ala Maduro.
