WASHINGTON, Jan 3 (Reuters) - The U.S. has struck Venezuela and captured its President Nicolas Maduro, who has been taken out of the country, President Donald Trump said on Saturday.

The U.S. has not made such a direct intervention in Latin America since the invasion of Panama in 1989 to depose military leader Manuel Noriega.

"The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country," Trump said in a Truth Social post.

There was no immediate confirmation from the Venezuelan government.

The U.S. has accused Maduro of running a "narco-state" and rigging an election. The Venezuelan leader, who succeeded Hugo Chavez to take power in 2013, has said Washington wants to take control of its oil reserves, the largest in the world.

No war for oil. I've had a shirt with that written on it for over twenty years, now, and my opinion has not changed.
Except there is no war. There won't be a war. The cartels are not Al Qaeda or the Taliban. They aren't in any position to launch a live full scale counter war against the US in Venezuela. They're just going to scurry like roaches.

N-no, Trumpy-kun! You c-can't just get in the damn robot and fly it to Caracas, b-baka!

The cartels will retreat to the rest of South America as they always did. From there, we can manage. Losing Venezuela has been a big blow though. They also lost Bolivia last year. Only Colombia still stands.

If played right, this can end the cartels in southern America. Or at least weaken them. If Cuba falls, then it could be indeed game over.

PCC still sends drugs by the tons from Brasil too

Wouldn't mind Trump sending an ICBM toward Brasilia as well, just sayin... Every single one of those politicians deserve it

The only way, in my opinion, to deal with them is not too let off the pedal. Mow everyone of them down with no mercy, because the enemy will show you no mercy.

The African-American Gentlemen of Phosphorescence were gangstalking Maduro and planning this since August.

Mock house, CIA source and Special Forces: The US operation to capture Maduro

WASHINGTON, Jan 3 (Reuters) - At 4:21 on Saturday morning, President Donald Trump sent a message on his Truth Social platform: the United States had carried out a daring mission to capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.

The action came as a surprise, but according to sources familiar with the matter, planning for one of the most complex U.S. operations in recent memory had been in the works for months and included detailed rehearsals.

Elite U.S. troops, including the Army's Delta Force, created ‌an exact replica of Maduro's safe house and practiced how they would enter the strongly fortified residence.

The CIA had a small team on the ground starting in August who were able to provide insight into Maduro's pattern of life that made grabbing him seamless, according ‌to one source familiar with the matter.

Two other sources told Reuters the intelligence agency also had an asset close to Maduro who would monitor his movements and was poised to pinpoint his exact location as the operation unfolded.

With the pieces in place, Trump approved the operation four days ago, but military and intelligence planners suggested he wait for better weather and less cloud cover.

Mexico's cartels are mostly a middleman to smuggle drugs from SA into the US. They became producers but only with synthetics like meth and fentanyl but that started in the 90s and requires chemicals from outside the country. If you take out the suppliers from China and SA, Mexico will only have opium and shitty weed.

Does this solve any of those problems? Seems like we might've just added a civil war to all that.
The solution would be to bomb the entire lower half of the continent but obviously that can't be done so this the second best option. Frankly latam will always struggle because, just like africa, because they always manage to elect the most corrupt person to be in charge, without fail.

When you live every single day of your life in fear of the drug cartels and rampant crime, you're already in a civil war. Having another one on top doesn't make much of a difference.

I love giving every tinpot dictator on the planet a prime excuse for seeking some form or another of WMD.

What an incredible act of 4D chess on the behalf of the world's premiere player of the great game, in his quest to legalize nuclear bombs.

To add to this, cartels don't have the idolatry that Islamists have. It's about business to them. If they can find a way to hide and/or integrate into the new power base and still make money, they're fine with that. Or just go to another country that let's them deal and hide there.

It's not like they're zealots the way the Muslims are.

For all of you saying that Venezuela would end up like Haiti, Maduro's VP, Delcy Rodríguez, already took power as president and is talking with Rubio to surrender and accept Trump's conditions.

According to sources, the reason Trump is sending US presence there is because they know nobody respects her, as she's part of the old regime, yet still needed to keep continuity. Looks like she might still be in power for the time being.

Also, this intervention was made with the actual president knowing and approving.
