WASHINGTON, Jan 3 (Reuters) - The U.S. has struck Venezuela and captured its President Nicolas Maduro, who has been taken out of the country, President Donald Trump said on Saturday.

The U.S. has not made such a direct intervention in Latin America since the invasion of Panama in 1989 to depose military leader Manuel Noriega.

"The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country," Trump said in a Truth Social post.

There was no immediate confirmation from the Venezuelan government.

The U.S. has accused Maduro of running a "narco-state" and rigging an election. The Venezuelan leader, who succeeded Hugo Chavez to take power in 2013, has said Washington wants to take control of its oil reserves, the largest in the world.

Residents in the captial, Caracas, reported hearing multiple explosions, particularly near Fort Tiuna, a major military installation in the city’s south.

Unverified footage appears to show large fires at 3 separate locations.

The cause of the explosions remains unknown at this time.

People don't understand that the main point of randomly kicking the ass of a USA enemy state is to display that the army is still working well, which is the main reason why there are no real rival empire/coalition to the USA.

Considering the difference in mindset with non western countries, the alternative is living like actual peasants rather than making meme about living like one.

So the really funny part of all this is that people on social media are trying to justify this with Bush-era rhetoric about how Maduro is a dictator, he rigged the election, this is to defend democracy in Venezuela, etc.

I say it's funny, because that's not even the official line for why they did this. He's been arrested on charges of drug trafficking. Nothing to do with him being a "tyrant", or anything about "bringing freedom to the Venezuelan people".

Random nobodies are giving unofficial justifications for this that are more plausible-sounding and high-minded than the actual reasons that have been given. In other words...

I have very mixed feelings, in that I think Trump's foreign policy has been the most effective part of his presidency so far. That really isnt why I voted for him though. He's gotten some incredible results in very little time, but I want him to get these types of deliverables domestically. Maybe this will serve as a strong justification for sending a shitload of refugees back to South America
