There's another woeful misconception people have about male pornstars I've been seeing a lot today. That being straight makes you less money than being queer. That is simply not true. There are many ways that being a queer performer actively harms your ability to make money
I've been in the industry for 3.5 years now and went from making $12 in the month of June 2022, to making $20,000-$23,000 a month now. So I have a bit of perspective on this. Let me explain why "straight porn makes less money than queer/gay porn"
1) The biggest is "crossover stigma" an actual phenomenon I've had quoted to me by executives in the industry. That shooting with men (and trans women) severely limits your ability to get booked for cishet studio scenes
I had an agent tell me straight up he would not rep me because I shoot with trans women. Getting cis het studio bookings is one of the surefire ways to massively grow your own platforms. Look at the top OF, Pornhub, & Manyvids creators: most are top studio guys
Inversely, look at how many "crossover" performers are regularly shot by mainstream cis het sites like Brazzers. Dante Colle is one. Sage Roux has been getting more opportunities. Chris Epic has shot for Team Skeet and others. Other than that, there aren't many
(those performers are also all white, but that's another story haha) My queerness has effectively barred me from shooting with any of the major cishet studios and as such my growth and income have been severely hampered because of anti-queer & anti-trans bigotry.
2) Gay men are just a portion of the overall porn viewing population. Gay men account for somewhere between 2 and 5% of the overall population. The VAST majority of porn viewers are straight men. It is actually difficult to build a massive, lucrative gay fan base
I would say I make between $500-$1500 a month directly from my gay fans. I have been trying to build a gay audience for years but it's hyper saturated and hyper competitive as a solo performer. And I am happy to do stuff like show/dildo my hole and stuff. Which most guys arent
One way to build a gay audience is to do studio work, but 3) it's actually not as easy to shoot gay studio as you'd think. For instance, I'm attracted to twinks, crossdressers and femboys. As far as I'm aware there are only a handful of studios that shoot that kind of content
I've reached out MULTIPLE times to studios like Femboyish, Men, Helix and other sites and have only been booked for 4 gay studio scenes ever. And I've been told by studios "We don't really shoot many twink videos, we're looking more for masc for masc" which leads me to point 4..
4) You actually still have to be a good performer to be a top gay talent! This reductive view from some women on here that if you just fuck guys and you'll be rich is so reductive and incorrect. Top gay performers hone their craft just like top straight performers
If you are forcing yourself day in and day out to do work that you don't like to do, let alone having to maintain an erection in a sexual context that you absolutely are not aroused in, you are most likely NOT going to make it to the top of gay porn.
Making money as a straight male performer isn't easy either. Don't get me wrong. It takes an extraordinary amount of work, dedication, investment and practice. I was a lawyer and journalist before and being a porn star is MUCH more work.
But the idea that just doing gay porn is how you make it and focusing on straight porn is self-indulgent is entirely wrong and misinformed. I think the problems men face in this industry pale in comparison to what women face. But please don't speak on shit you have no idea about
