GAIJIN NOTE: "Cram Schools" are things like Sylvan Learn Centers or The Russian Mathematics Academy, only instead of being places for margin students to get caught up to their peers they are generally places for overachieving students to further over achieve (or at least LARP like they are). Highschool and College placement in Japan is extremely competitive, so schools that are designed to get you ready to take placement tests are fairly common, some will specialize in getting you ready to take a specific Highschool/college entrance exam including hiring teaching staff from those targeted schools. They get very popular in the run up to year-end exams, and especially last year highschool final exams, as a way to get in that last bit of study before the exams - hence "cram school".


The unwashed Gaijin masses are usually only good for "conversation practice" not actual teaching.
This means you are either dealing with very young children as "Early English Exposure" where you are pretty much a funny alien creature for the children to gawk at as you make soothing gaijin noises, mostly with/at the actual teacher.
Or you are being put accross from college students/adults who just need to work on their spoken english. Sometimes you are 'correct' the student, but usually the conversations are recorded and then critiqued by an actual expert and told what to improve on.

(there a is market for highschool students, especially those getting ready for college (some colleges have spoken english testing), but fresh off the boat gaijin are likely not to be selected for that due to odds of sexual misconduct. But Middle School/Early Highschool students who need to actually learn English as a language and not just a communication method, any Gaijin without a teaching degree will be useless (and probably worse than useless give how everyday use ignore and massacres the official rules). So I really doubt Cheebs is doing anything there)

Its very unlikely that a small school would be able to absorb the costs of "double staff" for small class/individualized instruction given the inconsistent demand for services.
So I cannot fully picture the market segment Cheebs is employed where the company is so lax with scheduling and there is a potential lack of workable hours for staff. Because that sounds like a cram school, but I can't picture a cram school that would have a need to hire an uneducated retard like Cheebs.

The other thing to consider is that I am definitely saying all this stuff assuming the school is actually legitimate and not some sketchy low-rent cash extractor from inattentive parents. I heard some wild stories about what some of the less reputable cram schools would get up to, but none of them had work-visa foreigners in their employ.

Its also entirely possible the teaching job is 100% not an actual teaching job but a visa dodge; sign up with us to get a work visa, then just never come to work. Simply pay this $1,000 processing fee.

Oh! I totally forgot about this! If you are a foreign resident and you pass immigration to take a flight out of Japan like all the foreign tourists do you nullify your resident status. You have to go through a separate lane for foreign residents and it's easy to miss.

Yeah you need a re-entry permit. It's super easy to get. You go to Immigration, get a stamp at the kombini downstairs and get it stamped and placed in your passport.

Bonus part is you can choose which line you get into at the airport. I always took the one that was the shortest.
