Popes are still people, flaws and all. Regardless, it's more about assuming the best intentions rather than the worst, while journalists always overreach for the worst.

One quibble, Catholicism doesn't say only the pope can talk to God and that God only talks to the pope. It does say for purposes of governance that the pope has certain powers bestowed by God (binding and loosing) to say what is or is not acceptable behavior for Catholics.

Only somewhat recently (1870s) has the pope has had the power to infallibly say what is or isn't acceptable behavior, which is debated by lots of Catholics to this day.

We never came up with a suitable replacement for "faggot", and our lack of imagination created a generation of faggots because we couldn't pin down what to tell them not to be like.

Also this is old news from July but apparently some airports are allowing non-flyers past security. The TSA changes are actually some of the more effective white pills for me. Being able to see off family at their gate is something I've genuinely missed and taking off your shoes is gay and gross.
